Today we had such a neat opportunity to hear from The Water Brothers, who have an amazing program on TVO that showcases worldwide as well as local issues with water.  They showcased why water is important, some of the problems with water and some solutions that we can focus on to help the future.  For your blog post this week, I want each of us to make some promises, set some goals and actually do something.
Here’s the challenge:  For your post
  • Research on the dive deeper section of the water brothers website
  • Set 1 goal for yourself with regards to water.  Be specific about what goal you are working towards and when you want to achieve it by.
  • Write about one thing that you’ve done to consume less water this week.

My goal for myself that regards water is that I won't use straws for my drinks and I won't buy too many juice boxes. I am also trying to not waste water when I brush my teeth. I want to achieve this goal as soon as possible.

Actually, I WAS trying not to waste water when brushing my teeth, but I already did that. I did it on Friday. I will keep on saving water. I also didn't wash the bowl for my slime after everytime I made it, when I could use the slime to clean up any extra glitter or stuff.

My goal for myself that includes saving water is when I bath I usually bath a bit longer than I should so my goal is to stop taking long baths also when I brush my teeth I keep the sink running so I will try my best to stop doing that too. I want to do this as soon as I can.

I also want to stop eating sushi so much since a saw the video titled “The End of Sushi” and watched through it I want to not have it as often. I mentioned this because for this week I convinced my family to not go eat sushi as much. I want to keep doing this to stop overfishing. Also I started to not use so much water when I am washing my hands.

My goal will be to take less baths and take showers instead. Normally I have a bath 3-4 times a week I am going to try to slowly reduce that number by 75% and replace it with showers. What I did this week was I took one shower, instead of a bath.

My goal is to stop using straws and just say to the person "no straw please", because most plastic ends up in oceans or lakes. Also I want to turn off the tap when im actually brushing my teeth as most people will do. This week I went to McDonalds to get a drink and when I told them the drink I said "no straw please" and they said "REALLY?!?!?" like I was insane and I just said "ye" and I thought to myself, "I'm a good boy." and then I thought again "Thanks Willan, that's nice of you to say". Now you think I'm crazy, wellllllllllllll....... Bye.

My goal is to reduce the amount of water my family uses in our household. Our family already does several things to save water. They are: having dual flush toilets, using a high efficiency washing machine and using a dishwasher instead of hands to wash dishes. But we can still improve.

This week I have been turning off the water when I was brushing my teeth. I plan to continue doing it. I also will be taking shorter showers. In addition, I am going to educate my family members on more ways of conserving water. First, I will tell my grandma to try not to forget to fully turn off the faucet when she’s not using it. Next, I will ask my sister to not take baths but take showers because baths utilize more water. Lastly, I will explain to my whole family to not buy clothes that are made of plastic microfibers, like fleece jackets, because the plastic microfibers from those clothes can enter local waterways and pollute them. I am going to track water usage by looking at our water bills. I hope I will see a noticeable difference by the end of the school year.

My goals are to buy less juice boxes because if you by juice boxes theirs straws and straws are HORIBAL. I also want to save as much water as I can by taking way shorter bathes and more short showers. I also am not going to through garbage/plastic into the lakes, creeks or rivers. I want to achieve these goals as soon as possible.

I was trying not to waste straws but then my mom went to the grocery store and asked me what I wanted I forgot about the straw saving thing and asked if she could get me juice boxes but I wont to it again. I will tell my family not to buy juice boxes and take shorter showers. I will tell my Mom and my dad not to waste water when they are doing the dishes. bye

Ok, So I have decided that my goal is to not eat my candy and then throw it on the ground because that is not necessary. I also would like to stop leaving the tap on when I don't need it on. After we got to know more about the water brothers it made be want to set goals so that's what I did!

Also I know this isn't part of the requirement but I wanted to say thanks to the water brothers for choosing to spend your life helping the world and making it a better place!

One of my goal are to not put thing in the improper bins or it might get to the water. I have not kept the water running when i'm not brushing my teeth.

my goal to save water was to save containers so I would try to use containers more often so that they would not waste tones and tones of water trying to make the plastic to make those rapers and there we would save at least some water

p.s water brothers your amazing I love how you save the environment and think up cool inventions

pp.s is all the stuff you are doing working?

Sincerely, Sabina

My goal to help save water today is to not leave the tap on while I’m brushing my teeth and try to not flush the toilet as much or take really long showers or baths to avoid waisting water. I also want to stop using straws because you can’t recycle them and they are bad for the water so to help stop that yesterday I went for dinner and I asked for no straw in the drink I got.

Another thing that I think is easy for me to do to help water is to not use a lot of plastic bags or saran wrap and instead I would like to use containers more because with bag we can’t recycle them and they’re bad for our ecosystem and water.

So that’s the things I have started doing to help make water better.

Sincerely,
Mika

My goal his week was to not use any containers so it would help with the plastic i the waters. This challange was hard because i did no baggies so there were a lot of dirty containers. There for I didn't have ANY containers r my lunch so we had to wash and wash and wash and wash the dishes every day.

I really hope that my challenge helped the plate and the animals that live in it.

I actually have 2 goals that I'm setting for myself. The first is to save a lot of water by taking baths at a maximum time of 5 minutes. I will
achieve this goal by setting an timer that will tell when my time is up so I can stop.

I also will use the dishwasher instead of doing it my hand to reduce the amount of water used. I will achieve this reminding my parents to use it and I'll put all of my dishes inside. I have already reduced my water consumption by eating a lot less burgers and stopped flushing garbage down the toilet.

The first goal that I am going to set, is to, STOP TAKING 30MIN LONG SHOWERS!! I now, I now, that's ridiculous! I take about 30 min long showers because I just get so comfortable in the hot water and I get so distracted that I loose track of time!! I think I have already started because when I was in Mexico on March Break we all had to have showers and get ready within 1 and a half hour, so I couldn't have super long showers. (I think I got down to like, 15 minutes witch is still long but that was the best I could do) We all had a shower every night for 7 days so I got into the habit of having short(er) showers! (I will still work on it)

My second goal is to make sure I through stuff out in the right bins. This is so plastic and stuff like that cannot get in lakes, oceans, ponds etc. Plastic can choke and really harm fish all around the world! Sometimes fish even eat plastic and that could kill them. Look at this animation to see more!:

Those were my 2 goals to try to help water stay clean!!!!!🐬🐠🐡🐟🦈🎣

So where do I start? Well the first thing I want to say is thank you Mr.Stelman for letting us go on hangouts with them... The Water Brothers. It was a big learning adventure and I'm super thankful for the opportunity we had. My goal is to stop spraying my water bottle. What I mean is that after soccer I always spray my water on the cement and draw a picture or a letter but what I'm doing is wasting water so instead of spraying water thats in my water bottle I can save it. And plus its the little things that make a difference. Something I have actually been doing is using for containers and using paper straws. I used to use so many plastic bags for lunch but now I have started using containers and its cutting down on wasting plastic bags. Another thing I have been doing is using these paper straws that I already have at home. By using those paper straws I can recycle instead of wasting.

After watching 'The Water Brothers', I thought about our natural resources. It made me want to think more about the resources I use, and make sure that I am not being wasteful. Here are some of my goals to try and prevent resources from becoming depleted....

My most important goal is to take more showers than baths, because baths wastes more water than showers. I tend to take long showers, because I find it relaxing. However, another goal of mine is to take less than 15 minutes in the shower.

My family and I will also try to stop using plastic bags because:
1. They harm animals if they get stuck on them
2. They pollute the earth
3. We often don't reuse them
If we stop using them, we will cut down on pollution, and less animals will die.

I will also ask for no more straws and I will pack my lunch food in a reusable container and not in a zip lock bag.

I am optimistic that I can achieve my goals.

My goal to be kinder to the environment is to stop using straws because millions of them every day are just getting tossed into the ocean and then the fish get tangled in the plastic and then suffocate and, over time, that's how fish species become extinct.

My goal to consume less water is to take shorter showers. I will do that by making a conscious effort to reduce my time in the shower. I
have already started this goal this week.

Last week we were really caught up with the Water Brothers. We learned about saving our waters and how they are not dewing so well and that it i up to all of us to save the oceans. This week I have been trying hard to make that happen by using containers instead of plastic bags and suran rap. And it was hard! I had never thought that it would be so hard to not use plastic. BUt as long as the ocean is healthy and I am drinking clean water it was worth it!

Even if I did have plastic in my lunch, I didn't through it away!
To admit, I did through out my plastic today, but it was just today. Sorry!
I also want to say a thank you to the Water Brothers for cleaning and SAVING our oceans and lakes. (Mostly oceans)

So thank you Water Brothers, if you didn't know this is coming from my heart!

Sincerely,
Juliet
P.s. I know that this isn't a letter, but don't ruin it! :)

I think that it really important that we help save our water so here was I did this week to save our water. So the first thing that I did was I had a shorter shower and also this doesn't really involve water but do you now the soaps that have those beads in them well they are not healthy for fish. The fish end up eating the beads and all the fish die and it is really sad. The second thing I did was I was making slime and I could not find a container I did not want to use a plastic bag so I used a Marilus container and I put the slime in there instead of using a plastic bag. The third thing I did was when I was in the shower I stop the water when I am washing my body and I turn the water back on when I need to get the soap off so that it how I saved water in the shower. The last thing that I did was when I was cleaning my desk with a wet wipe I did not put it in the toilet I put it in the garbage so that a sowers would not clog.

I'm going to not take baths; I'm going to take showers. Because now that I'm older I realize how long I take showers. Like half an hour. It's a really bad habit.
When we were watching that Water Brothers videos in class, they kept touching up on the fact that people eat way too much fish and I was just like "yes". Dunno why I mentioned it.

So I know wasting water is a problem so I decided I should probably stop taking 20 minute showers and now only 5 minute ones. Also why do so many people have straws in there drinks i mean come on, so I also want to stop drinking with straws. So i'm feeling better after doing that stuff, and I sure hope the fish are feeling better.
