Watch the above video at LEAST TWICE! Imagine that you needed to describe this scene to someone who was visually impaired. Write a paragraph describing what happens during the pelican’s first flight. Think of the descriptive phrases that would make this come alive to a someone who couldn’t see this themselves. Engage all of the five senses: sight, touch, smell, taste, sound. Take your time with your paragraph; it doesn't need to be long but it needs to have an impact. Each word matters and counts, so take your time and do your best work! I'm excited to read them next Friday.

The start of the new school year offers a chance for each and all of us to come back to something that's familiar but at the same time bring a fresh perspective. I was reading a blog of a fellow teacher(@mraspinall) and he wrote his students a letter making them some promises. I was very inspired by his letter and I want to make you some promises as well.
Welcome to grade 6 with Mr. Steltman, this year is going to be exciting, and scary, and new, and different, and fun, and frustrating, and many more things. This year is going to challenge you and help you as grow into the teenagers and adults that you are going to be.
As your teacher during this time, I want to promise you a few things:
I am so excited for this year and for the chance to work and learn with each other. As your homework this week, please read this letter with your parents and in the comment section, make three promises to the class. We will read these together.
