Welcome to Grade Six! What happens when we fall?

Welcome to your first blog post of grade six! Each week, I will post a prompt and one of your homework tasks will be responding to the blog. We will read your posts on Fridays during social media morning. This week I was struck by something that happened at the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony. The link to see the video is here. The woman carrying the torch in falls down and is helped up, retrieving the torch and continuing on with her job. I feel like this is such a powerful metaphor for our learning and what we will do this year in our class. This is going to be a year that challenges, that pushes you, that takes you out of your comfort zone, and no matter what we will all fall down at some point. The beauty of this video shows what will happen when you get up, when you struggle through; people will help you,the crowd will cheer, and you will be able to accomplish your goals.
For your blog post this week, I'd like you to write down your promises for the year. What will you be sure to do and what can I, your classmates, and your parents hold you to? What are three promises that you will make that you will strive for each day?
I can start.
This year I promise to:
1. Give 110% in my lesson planning and delivery. I will try to engage you through the activities I plan in class, making them meaningful, powerful, and helpful.
2. Listen to you. If you have questions, concerns, ideas, thoughts, anything and you would like to talk to me about them, I will be there to listen. This can be in class, after school, before school, or at break. I'm here for you.
3. Expect amazing things. I promise that my expectations for you will be high, that you can achieve in all subjects, that you are an exceptional learner and that you will succeed!

1 This year I will do my best in each subject no matter how difficult it may be

2 I will do my best to help and encourage other students if they are struggling and I am finished my work.

1.This year I will make sure I always pay attention in class and listen to my teachers no matter what.

3.I will never not let anyone play with me and if I see someone alone at break I will go and talk to them.

This year I think I will promise being a lot of things, I want this to be my most successful year from all those years of being in school.

This year one of the most important things for me is to be a hard working student who does all of his homework and assignments on time. This is really important because once we go into the older grades we will start to have more and more assignments, that means that I need to be responsible. I think that this is a good time to start being more responsible than the years before.

I also want to be a supportive student to to all my friends and fellow students. I think that this is important because everybody needs help sometimes. I know that whenever I need help I ask a student first, I think that doing this will be helpful because students learning new things from other students will be better for your body. I knew that because all of my past teachers have said that.

Most importantly I want to have fun, even though you learn in school I still think that it is one of the best ways to have fun. To me having fun is the most important thing to everything. Having fun can conclude you to making new friends and become a better friend yourself. I also think having fun is important because when you have fun you enjoy yourself, when you feel happy you can totally change how I behave around other students.

This year for grade 6 I want to...

First I promise to stop talking out when the teacher is speaking and raise my hand to speak.

Second I promise to be friendly to people if they are my friend or if they are not my friends I will be nice and friendly.

Third I promise to do as I am told and when I am told to do it.

This year in grade 6, I really want to do my next task better than the last because sometimes I don't try hard enough to reach my goals.

I want to complete and hand in EVERY SINGLE ASSIGNMENT no matter how crazy the due date because there have been times where I, lets say expanded the limits...

Lastly, I want to accept my mistakes and to grow from them.

I love our class so far, it is filled with awesome fun kind people and im looking forward to a great year together! But we where asked of three promises to keep the whole year. So the first promise I will make is to keep organized, (desk locker), so it doesnt disturb anyone. Second promise is to take full responsibility for actions, and others false choices. Third promise is to include everyone in our class in activities.

1. to do the best I can do in the classroom.
2. when someone needs help I will do my best to try and help them.
3. I will ask for help when I need it instead of trieing to do it on my own in the classroom.

Well even though we have only bean in grade 6 for three days so far the last three days have bean awesome with Mr.Steltman and goals goals for the year I will,
1. Respect all the classroom rules and tribes agreements!
2. Try my hardest and do my best in every subject and assignment!
3. Make sure than all my assignments are handed in on time!
Theses are my three goals for the year and I'm going the try my hardest to complete them this year!

This was my fourth day of school when I wrote this comment. All people have many goals that they very want to develop. My goals are school wise. I hope I would follow the expectations and I will try to go far beyond. I did not achieve my expected goals for a few past years. It is now the time to achieve at least one of those goals. Here are my goals:

Putting my effort in trying to get nothing lower than a G. This will make me as an advanced student. A few past years I wasn't trying and doing well. So this is the time to try even though it was the time to try before.

Read books at least an hour per day. This will provide me with more specific vocabulary to write and speak. Reading books is very important. I didn't know how to read before because I even didn't know the language. I think that all people should read books regardless if you don't or do like reading.

Be in the top 5 best students at math in my classroom. I believe in myself that I could be in the top 5. All what I need to do is practice more. Before I was even struggling and I couldn't do the questions. Remember: Better practice, better results, then the more chance of you being in a fewer percentage out of the kids in your classroom.

If I manged to achieve the goals then this would be my best school year. Still I would have some goals that I need to achieve. This should be a good year for me because I think I got this. Now it's the time to start working towards to my goals. Also goals are very important because they are things you want in your life. They can even make your life easier if you have the goals all in order.
