Precepts: Choose Kind

While we were reading Wonder these past few weeks, I keep reflecting on Mr. Browne’s precept of “When you have the choice of being right or being kind, choose kind”. We learned in the book that a precept is a statement that helps you focus the way you live.
What do you think the precept means though?

Can you write a paragraph below in which you use an example (either from real life or made up) to explain what Mr. Browne means and why this is such a good precept.
As an added bonus, can you write a precept or life rule that helps you guide your life?

I think this is a very good precept. I think this precept means that if you are with somebody and they say something wrong don't say something mean and make them feel bad instead say something nice.

The precept I follow in life is" Don't give up when you are faced with a challenging obstacle."

There is a boy with speech problems that I help at my bus stop. I feel like helping him because if I was in that situation I would like a bit of help.

I like the precept treat others the way you want to be treated.

This is a good precept because you always have to be kind to people if your not then you wont have any friends and people will treat you the way you treat them

I think this is a good precept because it teaches us that being kind is better than being right. It also explains that you should be kind to everybody even if you don't like the person and that you should always be kind even if a person is being rude to you.I think that Mr.Browne means that you should be nice no matter what.

The precepts I live life are "Treat every body the way you want to be treated" and "Love everybody for who they and love yourself the way you are"

This is a great precept!
I think this means if someone does something that you would not do,or think is wrong, you should not put them down about it,but to be kind and learn about different ways to do things

My precept is "Respect yourself as much as you respect others."

I think Mr. Browne's precept is a great precept,
because this means that trying to be right all the time is never a good attitude and that if you ever have a choice to be nice or to be right choose to be nice cause that's how you want to be treated.

My precept is 'to always help others before yourself, even the simplest tasks can brighten someones day."

I think it's a good precept because you should always be kind instead of being right because if you were the other person you would most likely not like if the other person is always right and you're always wrong. You would probably start to get a little upset. So I think Mr. Browne means to be kind and not always right.

The precept that I live by is "Treat people how you want to be treated"

I think this precept means that instead of saying "I Told you SOOOO" you respond with kindness and gentleness.

Ex. when there's 2 glues and my mom says lets use the staples glue and my dad says no, no. Let's use our glue, but my mom says "but the staples glue is better" and my dad says "no it's not!" and my mom says "I will prove it!" and the staples glue does not work. Instead of saying "ha ha the staples glue does not work" say "it's of OK lets try our glue". It's better to be kind then to be right.

Our family Precept is trust is everything so don't lie.

This is a GREAT precept because it teaches us that kind is the better choice. It is always better to be kind then always right. You would rather to have someone kind to you then someone always right and not so kind to you.

I think Mr.Browne's precept is GREAT. I think Mr.Browne is trying to say that if you are always kind you will be a better person then always pushing to get everything right.

I think this is a great precept becuase instead of trying to prove your right you can just be kind because people can get sad if your just trying to prove them wrong and your the only one right! so rember when given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind!

I think that mr. Browns's precept is right because if you prove someone for example on a math question they say (5x3)x1to the power of 2 divided by 3= 14 and somebody else says "no it's 5 because first you do the brackets then you do the exponents". Then the kid that mistaken will probably feels sad or feels bad for himself being mistaken.

My precept are "Mistakes are always learning"

(When Given The Choice Between Being Right And Being Kind
CHOOSE KIND, )To me the quote means always be kind no matter what happens because being right is just something which will make you happy but by being kind you and everyone will be proud,and happy about them self but most importantly you will know you did a nice thing !

The precept that I live by is " My only competition is my potential "

It could mean for example if you see someone shoot a 3 pointer in basket ball, but they're foot was on the line so it's not a 3 pointer,but the person is very happy.So don't tell them because you were being kind not being right.

My precept is Always try hard never back down

If your friend told you a fact that he found on the internet about carrots growing from trees, and he thought that it was cool than don't correct him. If you correct him you might get into a fight and not be friends anymore, or if you just said that's great you would save yourself time and your friendship.

My precept is "your true character comes from the things you do when nobody's watching, not when people are watching."

If you had the choice of being right or kind you will pick kind because if you are always right you can become rude and no one like to be friends with rude people. If you are kind to other people other people with like you back then you can keep a lot of friendship and not lose it by being rude to other people.

My precept is " If you are kind to people they will be kind back to you"

choose kind because you will be mean to everyone when you say your always right and they will not want to be friends with you so choose kind and never choose right and always be kind.

I think his precept is understanding. It means that you don't always have to be right, just always be kind. Your friends wouldn't like if you were always right and never kind. No one would.

My precept is " Your not human if you don't make mistakes".

I think this is a good precept because being kind helps others. I have a two year old neighbor named Oliver who can act out some times by throwing objects at people and close to windows. Instead of yelling at him I speak calmly and say "you do not do that because that is dangerous". Then he says "I'm sorry" and I tell him its OK and we go back to playing.

My precept is treat others the way you want to be treated

When I know I was moving to Canada in December I make a choice I give all my friends a post card and a little note book, I write my
Email,my name, and were I was moving to.
I think it's a kind + right choice. Why is right: because I told my friends
I'll move to Canada . Why is kind: because I give my friends a gift !!

I need add something: After I give the post card to them my teacher make a goodbye party for me , all the classmate give me many surprising gift

I think it is a good precept, it means that always be nice to people even if you have the choice always pick the nice choice. This precept also means to be understanding and kind.

My precept would be "live life to the fullest" that means enjoy life because you only have one chance to life, don't ruin it

I think that the precept means that is you had a choice to either be right and get everything in the world right but you are not that nice to everybody and you don't have a loving family and the choice of being nice to people and when someone ask you to help them or try and guide them through something you should because that is a nice thing to do.
My precept is to "Be nice and never give up"

I think it means instead of being rude and being right all the time, be kind to others even if it means being wrong.

I think it means being right all the time is not the best you can do,but be kind to others even if it means being wrong but it's OK to be wrong right !?!? and know right and always be kind.

I think it is a good precept because always being right is like bragging, and when you are always right, eventually no one will like you anymore. It is okay to be wrong.
