Meaningful Songs

5/11/2017

This week, we started to look at different songs in class to see if we could read into them to find the author’s meaning from the lyrics.  It was neat, trying to prove an author’s message, and only having their words to guide us.  Songs are amazing in this way; the author may have a specific meaning but songs also mean something to you.  This week for you blog post, I want you to find a song that you like, a song that has a special meaning to you, and I’d like you to post a link to the lyric version of that song (youtube), and then talk about what the song means.

In a paragraph I’d like you to do three things:
  1. Talk about the author’s message and why you think that
  2. Explain why the song has a special meaning to you and what that meaning is
  3. Jot down the lines in the song that you find the most powerful and why

The song I chose is Thumbs, by Sabrina Carpenter. I think this song means that you should carve your own path, and go for what you think is right. This song is about people doing the same thing everyday, all for the same results, because it's 'just the way of the world.' Everyone just sits around 'twiddling their thumbs', even if they don't realize it. Sabrina wants us to break that chain, and do something a little bit differently for once. This song means so much to me, because it wants us to oppose the trap we call society. We can't keep going with the flow, because soon, we'll all be brainwashed zombies going with the flow. And for an 18 year old girl to not only believe that the monotonous way we're living is wrong, but to sing about it, and make the whole world know how she feels... She's off to an impressive start. The lines that struck me the most are as follows:

Don't believe everything that you hear
Let it go through your left and right ear
Don't just march to the beat of that drum
Don't be one of those people just twiddlin' them thumbs

I like these lines because they're just so blatant. Their meaning is clear, and there are no frills to disguise what they're telling us. The lyrics are saying that not everything in life and the things people tell you are valid. Don't fall in line with everyone else, and do SOMETHING, ANYTHING, for once.

The song I picked is "Seven Years Old" by Lukas Graham.

The song I picked is "Seven Years Old" by Lukas Graham. I think the authors message is about working hard to build a strong family relationship because you do not want to end up alone. The song has special meaning to me because life is so precious and you should make every moment count. It makes me feel sad because in verse 2 he talks about doing things that he should not be doing and his life is slowly going by. The lines of the song that I find the most powerful are the one where he talks about being old. We can see that life has gone by so quickly and if you are not careful you can end up alone.

Lyrics to the song "Seven Years Old" by Lucas Graham.
Once I was seven years old my momma told me
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was seven years old
It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger
Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker
By eleven smoking herb and drinking burning liquor
Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure
Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me
Go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely
Once I was eleven years old
I always had that dream like my daddy before me
So I started writing songs, I started writing stories
Something about that glory just always seemed to bore me
'Cause only those I really love will ever really know me
Once I was twenty years old, my story got told
Before the morning sun, when life was lonely
Once I was twenty years old
I only see my goals, I don't believe in failure
'Cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major
I got my boys with me at least those in favor
And if we don't meet before I leave, I hope I'll see you later
Once I was twenty years old, my story got told
I was writing about everything, I saw before me
Once I was twenty years old
Soon we'll be thirty years old, our songs have been sold
We've traveled around the world and we're still roaming
Soon we'll be thirty years old
I'm still learning about life
My woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs
And I can tell them stories
Most of my boys are with me
Some are still out seeking glory
And some I had to leave behind
My brother I'm still sorry
Soon I'll be sixty years old, my daddy got sixty-one
Remember life and then your life becomes a better one
I made a man so happy when I wrote a letter once
I hope my children come and visit, once or twice a month
Soon I'll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be sixty years old
Soon I'll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be sixty years old
Once I was seven years old, momma told me
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was seven years old

Once I was seven years old

The lyrics:

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting thought the wind
Wanting to start again
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in
Do you ever feel already buried deep
Six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down
You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

1. I think the author's message is to never let anyone bring you down
and if they do don't show weakness.

2.this song has a special meaning not just for me but for everyone else to. To not let people take you down. To be strong.

3.'Cause baby you're a firework- I find it powerful because it's telling people that they are like a fire work, and they light up the sky.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Qp5vcuMIlk The song that I picked was called Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran. I think the author’s message is that you can always have friends wherever you are and back where you grew up. This song reminds me that last Friday I had people cheering me on when I went on the log at Brock University, that shows that I have friends that believe in me. I make friends and I will never forget the first day I came to River Oaks because I made friendships that will last me a lifetime. In Castle on the Hill, Ed Sheeran is talking about all the friends he had in his hometown and how he made friendships that will last a lifetime. He also kept in touch with them.

Made friends and lost them through the years And I've not seen the roaring fields in so long And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh how we've grown But I can't wait to go home And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill Over the castle on the hill Over the castle on the hill One friend left to sell clothes One works down by the coast One had two kids but lives alone One's brother overdosed One's already on his second wife One's just barely getting by But these people raised me and I can't wait to go home I still remember This old country lanes When we did not know the answers And I miss the way you make me feel, it's real We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill Over the castle on the hill Over the castle on the hill

It show that he has friends that he remer them

This song is by by Sofia Kallgren one time she have a perform, because of the interpretation of an Italian new song, there will be a prepared lyrics. But was spotted when the lyrics were lost.but she still singing, then she want to tall everybody you can overcome difficulties because she think she is doing well that day, so she sing the song name "Life". So this song mean you can't afraid the challenge, you need face to the challenge you always can overcome that challenge(after you overcome that challenge you will feel everything is wonderful)
I think the most importer part is:
Oh, life, the miracle you bring Oh live your surprise
Beautiful I can see the beauty I see
I am deeply in my heart
Oh, life, I think I can breathe again Oh my life I think I can breathe again
Because inwardly tell we the there always have good thing our life, if there is no life, there is no hope, if there no hope, people don't want to do anything.Therefor if there is no good thing, the word will be destroy......

The song I chose was "Mama Said" By Lucas Graham
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH6M5SdzFjg
Here is the lyrics

When mama said that is was okay
Mama said that is was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us that we were good kids
And daddy told us never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun
'Cause we were good kids

Remember asking both my mom and dad
Why we never travelled to exotic lands
We only ever really visit' friends
Nothing to tell when the summer ends
We never really went buying clothes
Folks were passing the stuff in plenty loads
New shoes once a year and then
Out to play ball so we could ruin them

When mama said that is was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us we were good kids
And daddy told us never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun
'Cause we were good kids

Don't get me wrong I didn't have it bad
I got enough lovin' from my mom and dad
But I don't think they really understood
When I said that I wanted to deal in Hollywood
I told I might be singing on TV
The other kids were calling me a wannabe
The older kids they started bugging me

But now they're all standing right in front of me (ha ha)
Mama said that is was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us we were good kids
And daddy told us never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun

'Cause we were good kids
I know which place I'm from
I know my home
When I'm in doubt and struggling
That's where I'll go
And old friend can give advice
When new friends only know the half story
That's why I always keep them tight
And why I'm okay
I said I'm okay
You know what my mama said?

You know what she told me?
Mama said that is was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us that we were good kids
And daddy told us never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun

'Cause we were good kids
My mama said that is was okay
Babada baba
Babada baba
Babada baba
My mama said that is was okay
Babada baba
Babada baba
Babada baba
My mama said that is was okay

In a paragraph I’d like you to do three things:
Talk about the author’s message and why you think that
-I think the authors message is to say keep your loved ones tight no matter what, because when a problem in life occurs you have your loved ones.
Explain why the song has a special meaning to you and what that meaning is
-This is one of my favorite song, this is hard to answer. This song just strikes something deep inside and I can't describe even if it took 10 paragraphs.
Jot down the lines in the song that you find the most powerful and why
-

Don't get me wrong I didn't have it bad
I got enough lovin' from my mom and dad
But I don't think they really understood
When I said that I wanted to deal in Hollywood
I told I might be singing on TV
The other kids were calling me a wannabe

-This signifies what loved ones say and do for you and says a lot about their character as a person.

Here is the link to the song I chose https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zq93kBqF3EY

I think the authors message is that you are worth it, I think this because, no one see's beyond what you really are as person. When you understand something for the first time, but someone else has had it for a long time. Doesn't mean it is not important.

The special meaning this song has to me is, "You are something even if you think you aren't." The reason this meaning is special to me is because, it makes me feel stronger inside. This song also tells me that I know how to live my life.

"you are not your makeup not you're clothes an anonymous face that no one knows,
you're not a skin color, a pretty face, the number of inches around your waste." These line are important because you aren't what people except you to be, you are how you are.

I chose Demons by Imagine Dragons (welcome, Brian)! http://www.metrolyrics.com/demons-lyrics-imagine-dragons.html -Lyrics

I chose this song because it really speaks to our flaws. It realises the darkness in everyone and really just takes the problems out of being a person. This song speaks to me in a way that makes me feel like I am taken as more of a part of our living world than in a way where I would cower under the cold, burden of my flaws. I like the line, don't get to close, it's wild inside because it shows that you don't have to hide from your problems. That is why I like this song.

I chose rockabye by clean bandit. here is the link https://youtu.be/ym7XhG5D

here's the lyrics.

Call it love and devotion
Call it the mom’s adoration (foundation)
A special bond of creation, hah
For all the single mums out there
Going through frustration
Clean Bandit, Sean-Da-Paul, Anne-marie, sing, make them hear
She works the night, by the water
She's gonna stress, so far away from her father's daughter
She just wants a life for her baby
All on her own, no one will come
She's got to save him (daily struggle)
She tells him "ooh love"
No one's ever gonna hurt you, love
I'm gonna give you all of my love
Nobody matters like you (stay up there, stay up there)
She tells him "your life ain't gonna be nothing like my life (straight)
You're gonna grow and have a good life
I'm gonna do what I've got to do" (stay up there, stay up there)
So, rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Somebody's got you
Rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Rockabye, no (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye) (oh)
Rockabye, yeah, yeah (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye)
Single mom what you doing out there?
Facing the hard life without no fear
Just see and know that you really care
'Cause any obstacle come you well prepared
And no mamma you never shed tear
'Cause you haffi set things year after year
And you give the youth love beyond compare
You find the school fee and the bus fare
Hmmmm more when paps disappear
In a wrong bar can't find him nowhere
Steadily you work flow, heavily you know so you nah stop
No time no time fi a jeer
Now she gotta a six year old
Trying to keep him warm
Trying to keep all the cold
When he looks her in the eyes
He don't know he's safe when she says
"Ooh love"
No one's ever gonna hurt you, love
I'm gonna give you all of my love
Nobody matters like you
So, rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Somebody's got you
Rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry (Bidda-bang-bang-bang, alright then)
Rockabye, no (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye) (Oh)
Rockabye, yeah (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye) (yeah)
Rockabye don't bother cry
Lift up your head, lift it up to the sky, yo
Rockabye don't bother cry
Angels around you, just joy your eye
Now she gotta a six year old
Trying to keep him warm
Trying to keep all the cold
When he looks her in the eyes
He don't know he's safe when she says
She tells him "ooh love"
No one's ever gonna hurt you, love
I'm gonna give you all of my love
Nobody matters like you (stay up there, stay up there)
She tells him "your life ain't gonna be nothing like my life (straight)
You're gonna grow and have a good life
I'm gonna do what I've got to do" (yeah)
So, rockabye baby, rockabye (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye)
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye)
Somebody's got you
Rockabye baby, rockabye (Rockabye-rocka-rocka-rocka-bye)
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry (Bidda-bang-bang-bang, alright then)
Rockabye
Rockabye don't bother cry
Lift up your head, lift it up to the sky, yo (Rockabye!)
Rockabye don't bother cry (yeah yeah)
Angels around you, just joy your eye (Rockabye!)
Rockabye don't bother cry
Lift up your head, lift it up to the sky, yo (Rockabye!)
Rockabye don't bother cry
Angels around you, just joy your eye

1. the author's message is for any type of parent. they try their best to give their child everything they want and more and that you should give it back to them for that.

2. this doesn't really have a meaning to me but I think it's important to be grateful for everything your parents do for you.

3. the whole song I like but I think these lyrics are powerful. ( She works the night, by the water
She's gonna stress, so far away from her father's daughter
She just wants a life for her baby
All on her own, no one will come
She's got to save him (daily struggle) )

NO IDEAS

Firework
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep six feet under?
Screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause, baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, "Aah, aah, aah"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, "Aah, aah, aah"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

You don't have to feel like a wasted space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause, baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, "Aah, aah, aah"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, "Aah, aah, aah"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough

'Cause, baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, "Aah, aah, aah"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, "Aah, aah, aah"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

1. I think the authors message is that you can be bright as a firework, and as bright as the moon.
2. I think the meaning of this song is to be bright as in make smart choice or do better things
3. These are some of them...
- 'Cause, baby, you're a firework
- Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
- You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

I chose the song:Eye of the Tiger
Lyrics:Rising up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hanging tough, staying hungry
They stack the odds still we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive

It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Rising up, straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger

1+2. I think the message is to never give up, in the song he says thing like "Face to face, out in the heat
Hanging tough, staying hungry
They stack the odds still we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive" to me this means, no matter how bad it looks never give up. this is special to me because if I'm feeling down this song basically tells me to get back up.
3.They stack the odds still we take to the street, Rising up to the challenge of our rival and Hanging tough, staying hungry(to learn math)
these 3 lines are the most powerful because they are all lines to tell you to try and be tough and never give in.

The link:

1. Talk about the author’s message and why you think that:
I’ll ever stop caring. Bit if you decide to push me away, I’ll go.
2. Explain why the song has a special meaning to you and what that meaning is:
This is one of my favourite song. The special meaning to me is that my face is maybe different but my feelings the same.
3. Jot down the lines in the song that you find the most powerful and why:
I have been staring at the edge of the water, long as I can remember, never really know why.

I think the message behind this song is don´t judge a book bu its cover. It is because the singer is asking some one to stay and listen to her but that some one doesn´t want to. That person is judging the situation and thinking it will be a waste of time. He or she should see what the situation is about and her the singer out for what she has to say and then think about if it was worth the time. I think this is an important song because some people rush things that should not be rushed. Like a flower in some ones garden take the time to look at it to see how pretty it is even if it is not pretty. ¨All you have to do is stay a second¨ the singer is asking the other person only one minute only one. that shows how much we do rush.

The song I picked is Stronger by Kelly Clarkson. I think the message behind this song is to always be strong even if your alone, and to not care what other people think of you, and to always be yourself. There are many messages to this song, and everybody thinks about it differently. I think this is a really cool song, and that she did A good job writing it. She is talking about how people don't see her as she is, and that she is always alone. This is a really great message.
This song has a special meaning to me because now matter who you are, and how older you are you will always have a point in your life that you will feel like that.
My favourite lines in the song are:

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
What doesn't kill you makes you a fighter
Footsteps even lighter
Doesn't mean I'm over cause your gone.

I like this lines because she talking about standing taller and to never back down, and to always to what's right. And that is really a good message.

I think the message behind this song is to be who you want to be, not what others want to see. Don't change so other people would like you, because everyone's different and that's what makes you special. If everyone's the same, do the same things everyday, then life would be boring. It's overrated to be ordinary.

Here are my favorite lines in the song:

Create yourself, redo yourself, renew yourself
Be you, do what you do
Hold your head up high, everything's gonna be alright
You're you, I'm me, let's live in harmony

I like these lines because it shows a strong message about being yourself. There's only one you in the universe, so make yourself special.

The song I chose is beliver by imagine dragons

Lyrics:First things first
I'ma say all the words inside my head
I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, oh ooh
The way that things have been, oh ooh
Second thing
Second, don't you tell me what you think that I can be
I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh ooh
The master of my sea, oh ooh

I was broken from a young age
Taking my soul into the masses
Write down my poems for the few
That looked at me took to me, shook to me, feeling me
Singing from heart ache from the pain
Take up my message from the veins
Speaking my lesson from the brain
Seeing the beauty through the

You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you build me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My luck, my love, my God, they came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

Third things third
Send a prayer to the ones up above
All the hate that you've heard has turned your spirit to a dove, oh ooh
Your spirit up above, oh ooh

I was choking in the crowd
Living my brain up in the cloud
Falling like ashes to the ground
Hoping my feelings, they would drown
But they never did, ever lived, ebbing and flowing
Inhibited, limited
Till it broke up and it rained down
It rained down, like

You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you built me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My luck, my love, my God, they came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

Last things last
By the grace of the fire and the flames
You're the face of the future, the blood in my veins, oh ooh
The blood in my veins, oh ooh
But they never did, ever lived, ebbing and flowing
Inhibited, limited
Till it broke up and it rained down
It rained down, like

You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you built me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My luck, my love, my God, they came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

I don't have any favorite songs. I chose a random song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tJYN-eG1zk

I couldn't find the lyrics but I do not want to write the whole lyrics on
this post. The song is called "We will rock you" by Queen.

The meaning about this song is about this individual boy, who fought for himself. He would get into lots of fights, which he would fight his enemies. He did struggle, but he strived for it. Now, he is a grown man, and lives a happy life.

Or, when he was a kid, he followed his dreams which he wanted to be tough, strong and fight off his enemies. I'm guessing, he dreamed in success, and violence.

These were the two meanings of the song that I think. - Sorry for my bad English. Again, I don't have any favorite songs and music because it gets boring hearing them repeatably.

the song i chose was beleiver by I.D. i would IMAGINE that you would be familiar with this song. (insert another terrible music pun here) anyways, i chose it because i think that the authors message is overcoming pain, and how it may be a tool. here are some lyrics as an example: "I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My life, my love, my drive, it came from...
Pain!
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer!" i beleive that the authors message was that pain come for a reason. if you listen to the song, he talks about how he was young, e.g: "I was broken from a young age
Taking my sulking to the masses" so it seemed that he had a rough childhood. it is a message of embracing pain, and using it as a tool for personal growth

i chose the son (drag me down) by:one direction

her are the lyrics
[Harry:]
I've got fire for a heart
I'm not scared of the dark
You've never seen it look so easy
I got a river for a soul
And baby you're a boat
Baby you're my only reason

[Louis:]
If I didn't have you there would be nothing left
The shell of a man who could never be his best
If I didn't have you, I'd never see the sun
You taught me how to be someone, yeah

[Liam:]
All my life
You stood by me
When no one else was ever behind me
All these lights
They can't blind me
With your love, nobody can drag me down

[Niall:]
All my life
You stood by me
When no one else was ever behind me
All these lights
They can't blind me
With your love, nobody can drag me down

[Chorus:]
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down

[Niall:]
I got fire for a heart
I'm not scared of the dark
You've never seen it look so easy
I got a river for a soul
And baby you're a boat
Baby you're my only reason

[Harry:]
If I didn't have you there would be nothing left (nothing left)
The shell of a man who could never be his best (be his best)
If I didn't have you, I'd never see the sun (see the sun)
You taught me how to be someone
Yeah

[Niall:]
All my life
You stood by me
When no one else was ever behind me
All these lights
They can't blind me
With your love, nobody can drag me down

[Chorus:]
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me

[Liam:]
All my life
You stood by me
When no one else was ever behind me
All these lights
They can't blind me
With your love, nobody can drag me down

[Niall:]
All my life
You stood by me
When no one else was ever behind me
All these lights
They can't blind me
With your love, nobody can drag me down

[Chorus:]
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down

Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down
Nobody, nobody
Nobody can drag me down.

the message of the song is that not to give up and not to be scared of anything and get out of the dark and show the world who you actually are.And no-won can stop them or no won is going to get in there way. They worked so hard to get to where they need to get to and nothing stops them.when they said nobody can drag me down it gave me this felling that nothing is going to stop me from doing what i like and nobody is going to stop me from doing it no mater what.

The song I chose is Stressed Out by 21 Pilots.

I think what the authors are trying to say that when they were younger they were more free and they had different dreams that they thought they are going to fulfill. When they got older they had to concentrate on getting money and not on their dreams.

I like the song because the authors are saying that you should dream big and try to fulfill your dreams. And when you grow up you shouldn't give up on your dreams and should work hard towards those dreams.

The most powerful line in this song's lyrics is Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face saying wake up you need to make money. I think so because this line shows best what the song is about.

Lyrics
I wish I found some better sounds no one's ever heard
I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words
I wish I found some chords in an order that is new
I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang

I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink
But now I'm insecure and I care what people think

My name's Blurryface and I care what you think
My name's Blurryface and I care what you think

Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out
Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out

We're stressed out

Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young
How come I'm never able to identify where it's coming from
I'd make a candle out of it if I ever found it
Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I'd probably only sell one

It'd be to my brother, 'cause we have the same nose
Same clothes homegrown a stone's throw from a creek we used to roam
But it would remind us of when nothing really mattered
Out of student loans and tree-house homes we all would take the latter

My name's Blurryface and I care what you think
My name's Blurryface and I care what you think

Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out
Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out

We used to play pretend, give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face
Saying, "Wake up, you need to make money"
Yeah

We used to play pretend, give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face
Saying, "Wake up, you need to make money"
Yeah

Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out
Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out

Used to play pretend, used to play pretend, bunny
We used to play pretend, wake up, you need the money
Used to play pretend, used to play pretend, bunny
We used to play pretend, wake up, you need the money
We used to play pretend, give each other different names
We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away
Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face
Saying, "Wake up, you need to make money"
Yeah

The song I chose is Same Love by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Lyrics: When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay,
'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight.
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like "Ben you've loved girls since before pre-k, trippin'."
Yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she?
Bunch of stereotypes all in my head.
I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league."
A preconceived idea of what it all meant
For those that liked the same sex
Had the characteristics
The right wing conservatives think it's a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made rewiring of a predisposition
Playing God, aw nah here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know
And "God loves all his children" is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago
I don't know

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We become so numb to what we're saying
A culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other fag*ots behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!
Live on and be yourself
When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom 'til we're equal, damn right I support it

(I don't know)

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

We press play, don't press pause
Progress, march on
With the veil over our eyes
We turn our back on the cause
'Til the day that my uncles can be united by law
When kids are walking 'round the hallway plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law is gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever God you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up... sex

And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

1. I feel like there is such a big message in this song that nobody could explain. It shows that the world is so hateful for not being yourself. It says that no matter what there would be people that don't support decision. I really hope the huge message that the song spreads across the world.

2. Kind of explained it in (1.)

3. "America the brave still fears what we don't know
And "God loves all his children" is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago
I don't know",

"It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment"

These two lines mean so much, do we really need to not be ourselves to be accepted by other's? The answer is no and you should be accepted for who you are. This song has many more meanings, but I think that getting love for who you are should be for everybody. Not just for people that aren't looked at by disgust or anything else, we need to all be accepted.

1. There is such a big message in this song. It shows that the world gives you so much hate for being yourself, that there would always be people that don't support you. This is the main meaning of the song.

2. This song is special because it shows a global problem where people aren't accepted for who they are. This song can express that.

3. "It's the same hate that's caused war from religion Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment"

It line means a lot by expressing racism, religion, and color. This song overall has so many meanings.

Lyrics

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar

Now I'm floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar...

Ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar...

1. Talk abo ut the author’s message and why you think that

2.Explain why the song has a special meaning to you and what that meaning is

3.Jot down the lines in the song that you find the most powerful and why

First the girl was weak but at the end she got strong, at the start if the song she would sit quietly but at the end she would speak up.

This song has a special meaning because it relates to me when if I want to speak up but I'm too afraid to.

"I sat quietly, agreed politely"
This is one of the important parts of the story because it shows she is polite and is quiet and shows that she is weak.

"I see it all, I see it all now"
This is one of the important parts because its saying she sees what's happening how she's afraid and figured out how not to be afraid so then she can start speaking up.

"Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar"
This is a important part too because it shows she is not afraid anymore and is speaking up for herself and not sitting quietly and afraid.

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse
All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse
Welcome to the room of people
Who have rooms of people that they loved one day
Docked away
Just because we check the guns at the door
Doesn't mean our brains will change from hand grenades
You're lovin' on the psychopath sitting next to you
You're lovin' on the murderer sitting next to you
You'll think, how'd I get here, sitting next to you?
But after all I've said, please don't forget
All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse

We don't deal with outsiders very well
They say newcomers have a certain smell
Yeah, I trust issues, not to mention
They say they can smell your intentions
You're lovin' on the freakshow sitting next to you
You'll have some weird people sitting next to you
You'll think "how did I get here, sitting next to you?"
But after all I've said, please don't forget
(Watch it, watch it)

(Watch it)
All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
(Watch it)
Wait for them to ask you who you know
(Watch it)
All my friends are heathens, take it slow
(Watch it)
Wait for them to ask you who you know

Why'd you come, you knew you should have stayed
I tried to warn you just to stay away
And now they're outside ready to bust
It looks like you might be one of us

1) What Tyler (author) meant was of how he is does not want to change the way he makes his songs because of the new generation of people. the definition of heathens is a person who does not belong to a widely held religion. There is also a video about this.
2) This song means something to me because its heathens. Duh

I chose Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer because I thought it was your great song with a positive message. my favorite part of this song is when the singer says

“I know it's hard, know it's hard, to remember sometimes but you gotta keep your head up”

I like this part because sometimes when people feel down they just need to put the head up and think positive and be happy and even writer of the song knows it's hard to do that sometimes but you got to keep your head up!

My song was believer

First things first
I'ma say all the words inside my head
I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, oh ooh
The way that things have been, oh ooh
Second thing
Second, don't you tell me what you think that I can be
I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh ooh
The master of my sea, oh ooh

I was broken from a young age
Taking my soul into the masses
Write down my poems for the few
That looked at me took to me, shook to me, feeling me
Singing from heart ache from the pain
Take up my message from the veins
Speaking my lesson from the brain
Seeing the beauty through the

You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you build me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My luck, my love, my God, they came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

Third things third
Send a prayer to the ones up above
All the hate that you've heard has turned your spirit to a dove, oh ooh
Your spirit up above, oh ooh

I was choking in the crowd
Living my brain up in the cloud
Falling like ashes to the ground
Hoping my feelings, they would drown
But they never did, ever lived, ebbing and flowing
Inhibited, limited
Till it broke up and it rained down
It rained down, like

You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you built me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My luck, my love, my God, they came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

Last things last
By the grace of the fire and the flames
You're the face of the future, the blood in my veins, oh ooh
The blood in my veins, oh ooh
But they never did, ever lived, ebbing and flowing
Inhibited, limited
Till it broke up and it rained down
It rained down, like

You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you built me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
I let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My luck, my love, my God, they came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

1 I think the authors message was that it talked about how he was transforming from just ordinary to a believer and I think the part when it said oh i let the fly and rain I think he was showing how he has became from just one ordinary person to something much better.

2.I think the special meaning of this song was when it had said that "I'm the one I'm the sail I'm the master of my seas ooh ooh " I think that was important because the mening of that text meant that he would control himself an won't let others control him .

3. I think this song is powerful because that it shows how you can be ordinary but then broken apart to be something better and I also think that you got to stand on your 2feet no matter what comes across you.
