"I Have  A Dream" - The fight for Equality

2/5/2016

After watching the video of Martin Luther King’s Speech “I have a dream”, write a blog post about our next steps we can take to create a world where everyone is treated with equality?

What does equality mean to you? How can we change society’s views on accepting “differences” (race, gender, and sexual orientation)?

What does equality mean to me?

Equality means to me that equal opportunities for everybody.

Ex. Boys and girls should go to school rather than boys are able to go to school only in some countries.

How can we change society’s views on accepting differences?

We can change society's views on accepting differences by not judging people by their race or gender. We can do this by promoting a positive attitude towards different people.

To me equality means that everyone has equal rights no matter what gender, race or religion.

I think changing people's views would be very hard. BUT, we can make people feel included and equal by letting them play sports, go to school and have their own privacy.

I believe that no matter what race, gender or differences everybody should be treated equally. But the world is not perfect, and for that reason we need to take small steps,so
here are some steps we can take to create a world where everyone is treated with equality.

1.Don't discriminate. Never think of anybody as less than you. We were all born free and equal, to say and do what we want, and it should stay that way.

2.Treat everybody the same.Don't be rude to someone because they have a different skin colour than you, or don't "go easy" on them because they are a girl. Just because they were not born like you, doesn't mean you are better or stronger.

Equality means living in a world where you do not fear being made fun of because you are different, where you are treated fairly, and you are respected. Let's be a country where equality is not an issue.

Have you ever felt someone making fun of you because of your race, gender or something else? Have you ever felt that you want to go somewhere so no one can make fun of you? No one should ever feel that kind of pain, and that is when equality comes in! The human rights are for everyone! Don’t discriminate others because they are different. Just remember that everyone is special in their own WAY!!!!! Even if you don’t like someone that isn’t the same race, gender or anything else as you, ALWAYS treat them with respect and polite.

Ex. “ I don’t like you because of this… ” NEVER EVER do something like that because the person would feel like someone elbowed them really hard. Always think before you say and imagine yourself in their shoes.
Ex 2. Discriminating others are just telling them how they are useless… If you were talking rude about someone that has a different race then you, different gender, or something else, They will hear about it and get embarrassed and hide from people. That is all because of you, and there will be BIG consequences. Always think before you do!

Equality is everybody treated other people equally. So not judge people on they're skin colour but who they are as a person. First if you think you might say something mean don't say anything at all because you could hurt that persons feelings. Next imagine how the person feels about that so always treat others the way you want to be treated. Those are my steps. Thanks for listening.

Have you ever been treated differently just because of your race, gender or background? Have you ever been in the situation where you can't go somewhere because of your race or because your scared you are gonna be made fun of? Everybody in the world should have the same rights as everybody else and that's when equality is important. Equality is needed everywhere and equality is needed!

What is equality to me? Equality to me is when everybody get's treated right and when everybody get's treated fairly. Equality isn't just to be treated fairly it's also to be recognized as who you are on the inside and not to be recognized because of your background or your skin colour. Equality is very important to me because since I wasn't born in Canada or since my skin colour is different I am afraid to be somewhere where people will judge me because of how I look or because people will be rude to me or be unfair to me because of my background or how my parents look.

Here are some things that we as a community can do to accept people that are different.....

1. Treat everybody fairly!!! You should never think of yourself as more than anybody, like your the King Or Queen and than the other person is a peasant. Everybody is equal but we will only realize that when we see everybody as who they are on the inside rather than seeing them as their gender or race.

2. I don't know how to explain this one but this has actually happen to me before so I'm just gonna use this as an example... Ok so I once went to Pakistan and I came back, but when I came back this student in one of my classes asked me a question which I felt offended by because this student was judging me because of my background and because of how I looked. I won't name the person but the question was based on an event that was happening somewhere in the world and somehow this person based this question on me the question was " Khushi did you see any people from ISIS when you went to Pakistan". What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't base your thoughts on someone just because of there gender, race and stuff like that especially if it's something rude or bad.

Let me just conclude this by saying that everybody in the world is different and we have to include them in what we are doing or we have to get to know them better before we judge. We have to try to make everybody fit in even from different ages to different genders we all have to make a difference. There once was a quote by Andrew Cuomo he said "I believe discrimination still exists in society and we must fight it in every form". That is what I think of Discrimination and Equality. I have my thoughts and you have yours so if they are rude keep them to yourself because they can affect everybody.

After watching the inspiring video of what Martin Luther King's Dream for the future was, it made me think of the future where everyone is treated equally and not individually despite their tone of skin, their race, their gender. I know this will happen in the future but for now we will work towards this goal. Anyways…

What does equality mean to me?→ To me equality means everyone is treated equally like what I mentioned in the opening paragraph

How can we change the society's view of accepting differences?↓
I think we can change society's view by promoting the problem, I never knew this was such a big problem before I learnt about this and I’m sure others will hear how bad this is and help make difference. I also think we can help support those who aren’t being treated equally and donate to organizations that help support these people.

Many people in the world are being treated differently because of the gender, skin colour or different beliefs. I think that is truly unfair because everyone is equal.

I think that equality is necessary for everyone. Everyone should be able to follow there dreams without being stopped because of there gender, skin colour or beliefs. Everyone deserves to have the same rights!

Something we could as a society could do to stop discrimination is to think of everyone as equals. Don't just judge them by there gender or anything else. Just think about what you like about them. For all you know they could be amazing.

EVERYONE IS EQUAL.

I think treating someone differently or abusing someone because the color of his/her skin is very racist and unfair.

I think equality is extremely necessary for everyone. no one should abuse people just because the color of his/her skin. That goes to you, Donald Trump. Everyone deserves the same rights!

We could stop racism by thinking everyone as equals. We should not criticize people just by the color of his/her skin. Just think about what you like about the people. You wouldn't know how amazing a guy is if you are racist.

DON'T BE RACIST TO ANYONE.

Equality means that every single person in the world is the same. They are not higher or lower than you.And you are not better or worse then them.We are to be treated equal. And not be treated different.
Step 1:Everyone is treated like you are being treated.
Step 2:Be friendly to everyone.Even the people you don't like.
Step 3:Never be racist like Connor said.
And Step 4:Follow these steps and be happy also safe.
And don't do anything that's going to be racist like makeing fun of skin color, religion, belief, and even look.

Equality is one of the most important things in life and it should be available for everybody. Equality is respecting others, weather their skin color, race, language, gender, height or length etc is different. No matter who or what you are, we all still have the same importance of being here on earth. Everybody has a part in life and if you don't let half of the world take there part than you might as well not take your part either. Quite a while ago, someone named Martin Luther King Jr took his part of being here and made a big change. He made sure that you know that everybody is the exact same. He changed the whole entire world. Right now, about 90% of the people that didn't gt to take there part are out there in the world doing something that they where just dreaming of before Martin Luther King Jr. Most of the world doesn't discriminate the people that are different from them, but sadly their are still people that do. We are still trying to find ways to change the world, and about only half will actually work. Let's say there was a man in your neighborhood that didn't know English, didn't understand Canada as a country, and was from another place in the world. Would you make him feel bad? probably not. Right? About 5 decades ago you wouldn't know any better and would make him feel bad. If you think that you wouldn't then you are wrong. Back in the sixties little kids where surrounded by so many bad people, that they didn't know any better. If you time traveled you probably wouldn't find things like in movies but it would be a lot different. If you know any people who don't always do the right thing and treat other people the same, than it is not always their fault. They could've had bad parents, who had bad parents, and this could go on for a very long time. People who are influenced to do the wrong thing, could've actually turned out to be great people, but sadly aren't.

Equality is a simple word – it means equal rights and equal treatment for all no matter your skin colour, gender, race or handicap. In my mind, we are all the same and everybody has the right to be treated with respect
Steps we can take to create a world where everyone is treated equally are:
1. Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. It may sound simple but it’s not and sometimes we all need to be reminded of this.
2. Treat people like they are your family. Use kind words, don’t be racist
3. If someone is new to the country and they are a different skin colour or race, don’t discriminate against them. Make them feel welcome and make an effort to know them.

Equality is a really strong word in our life.It means that we are all equal to each and everyone us.Plus, their is no difference if people have different skin color, race or even gender. If you always want to be treated nice,be nice to others too!

Equality is really important to the society now because it was once and is still sort of a problem I want to change that now is better than never. I we can only wish that tomorrow when wake up it is going to be a better place for everyone. Martin Luther King once said "I have a dream that my 4 little children will not be judged by the color of their skin"
Ways to help...
1. You can think about what you say before you say it to someone's face, like lets say ( yes you again Rayna) Rayna doesn't like the way that Salma brushed her hair this morning and she tells her, after Rayna tells her she feels sad and wants to change it.
2. you can treat others the way you wan to be treated.
3. And last thing we can stop discrimination.

I think we can make things equaled with ALL people of this world how? I dunno but I have some sort of plan for our school but I dunno about the WHOLE earth but anyways for our school we could
have a VERY VERY special person to talk about this issue but I dunno if this will work though and/or if I was the one in charge of getting this issue then I would get the WHOLE Earth in one place then I'd tell them the issue then tell then that we should stop doing it and I dunno what I'd to next...

The video of Martin was really cool. It was neat to see what people were doing to make our world better. Equality to me is really important and I think it is so unfair that some people get treated badly because of there dislikes, gender, religion etc. I know that everyone is different in their own ways but it's not fair to treat them bad. I think that we should try to stop it as soon as possible. So a couple ways to get started are...

1. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Put yourself in their shoes. if you are making fun of someone just because of the skin color or religion thin of how hurtful that would be to you. Everyone is different in they own ways. Nobody is the exact same people have their own personalities.

2. Include everyone. Just think of being equal to everyone. Don't make fun of someone because they don't like things the same as you. Be nice to them and treat them the same as you would treat anyone. If they want to play let them play!

To end off this blog post I would just like to remind you that little things can make a huge difference and that everyone is different but in a good way. You should be proud of that!

Equality is something the whole world is struggling with! People just judge others by there skin colour, religion, size, capabilities etc. Equality to me means accepting everyone no matter who they are or what they do because everyone is amazing in there own way!

I think we could change the society's view of accepting difrincess by.....

1.treating others equally
2.supporting everyone no matter how they look like
3. Don't discriminate!

Equality is something we all have to make sure that we are doing right! You don't know what that person might be going through so rember if you don't have something nice to say than don't say it!

"Don't judge anyone from the outside, judge them from the inside

To me equality means every one should be trained the same way and not by there skin color or religion.

EX. In China the place where my mom was born there are a lot of minority people who believe there their own religion. People don't like them because they looks different and they speak other language.

How can we help it:
We should learned more about them and stop making fun with them. Also we should have the faith that people are equal and everyone should be treated fairly.

what equality means to me:

Equality means to me that no one gets judged by what colour their skin is or if they are a girl or boy or what they look like. It means whatever you shouldn’t get treated by the way you look, dress.

Changing people's views:

It will not just happen overnight! It will take time to change the way people look at one and another. We can start by not making fun of others at school and at home. If everyone does their part the we can stop the way people look at one and another. The world would be 1000 thousands times better if everyone was nice like holding the door open or not making someone feel bad or even standing up for someone.

Monica

Everyone should be treated fairly and equally,Everyone should be able to live a life where there is no slavery and bad treatment and Everyone should be in a place where no one can take away there Human rights.

When I hear the word equality I think of "Fairness" and that means everybody should get to be treated fair, when Martin Luther king jr. said "I want my 4 kids to be looked at not by there race or colour but by there content of there character " (I think that's what he said) that was a meaningful sentence because it was saying that everyone is different but in a GOOD way!

One way I think that we can stop the world from thinking difference is bad is by making them think that each person is unique and no one has the right to take away someones rights>

What does equality mean to me?
Equality is that everyone is treated the same way you are if they are a different then you like being a girl if you a boy #likeagirl that is a couple weeks ago.

How can we help it:
we can help by doing ting that are equal if someone is sitting alone you can go over and sit with them so they are not alone. You can say nice things about the person if they are sad like you are awesome or of thing that are nice so they feel good about there selfs and not be upset.

Equality is when other people treat other people the same way.

We can help it by treating everyone in the same way. Also what you can do is make posters and get people involved with helping equality. Another thing that we can do is if anyone is sad you can help make them feel better.

Intro: I think That everybody should be equal but some people are not very nice but you can be equal.

I got 5 ways that you can make the world more equal.
1, When you go to tim hortons and you see the donation thing you can put some money in there.
2, Be kind to everybody and say please and thank you nicely.
3, You can olso give some money to homeless people and maybe also get him a free cup if you have the money. :)
4, You must not treat people by their color skin or gender or tradition. Judge people on how they behave and how the treat other people.
5. Oslo if someone is nice to you be nicer to them.

Ex. When I still lived in South Africa It was not very fair I always had to go with my parents just across the street just to go to a friends house because lots of people on my street very very very bad people.

I just want to start of this blog post by saying how great of a person Martin Luther King Jr and everybody that was listening to his speech and cheering him on is> well Martin Luther king is probably one of the bravest people that you have ever heard of and let me tell you why. Martin Luther King Jr was an activist at a time where their were lots of breakdowns what I mean by that time there where a lot of protests mainly of Black people trying to prove that we should all have the same rights no matter our race and skin tone and they fought and fought until they got their way and I think that everybody that stood up to racism is a very inspirational figure because they were risking their lives for what they think is right and that can teach everybody to keep fighting and don't but everybody in that group that was their listening to his speech and cheering him on had lots and lots of bravery because right at that moment the government could of captured them and sent them to jail and they knew that but they didn't stop fighting.

What is equality to me? Equality to me is that everybody gets treated not by the colour of their skin or their race that they happen to be but when people are treated by their personality because we all might look different we might talk in different pitches and we might dress differently or have a different religion as the next person but underneath all those differences because every single person that lives in this planet is different but underneath all that we are all human and we should all be treated the same way as every other 7 billion humans that live on this planet and should not be judged by the color of our skin or by the religion we have but by the way we act no one in this world should be afraid to go somewhere because of there race of skin tone because if people are afraid to go places how will they go places in life and get a job?

Here are some ways us as a community can help stop racism and to accept everybody no matter their race or skin tone.

1. treat everybody fairly and no body should have more rights than anybody else even the prime minister or the president. What I mean by this is don't treat people by how they look or the religion that they have because we all might look different and do different things but we are all humans and should be treated that way no matter skin tones or religions we all are a part of this world and to make it a better place we need to create peace among us and separating people by what they look like and what religion they are will only create chaos and we don't want that do we. This is really easy to do all you need to do is just not to treat someone like they are the king of the world and make them have more rights than anybody else but also don't treat someone like they are useless and shouldn't be alive because we should all be treated the same way no matter ANYTHING!!!!!!

2. The second thing that we as a community can do to stop racism is to not judge people by what you hear about them. What I mean by this well let me give you an example let go all the way back to the 1960s when their was the racism crisis and a white child was born probably there parents grew that child up making him think that white people should have all the power and that black people are slaves so that is probably what that child grew up thinking and her probably judged people by their race or their skin tone for the rest of his life. This is another example my uncle went to Israel over Christmas with his wife his son and his two daughters well because of what they heard of on the news they might of thought that everybody is mean and wants to kill you but when they got their there were a lot of really nice people and that were not mean and sure there were some mean people but their are mean people here to so my point is when you see something on the TV don't think that it is always going to be like that because it wont be.

3. My third thing that we can do to stop racism as a community is to stand up for what is right. What I mean by this is that is well for example lets look at Martin Luther King Jr he was a person who went above and beyond for what was right he fought and he fought and he fought until he couldn't fight any longer for what was right and I'm not saying that you need to go that far but if someone is judging people by their skin tone or their race stand up for what is right.

I just want to end this of by saying that we should all be treated the same way no matter our skin tone or religion because like I said before even though we look different and do different things we are all humans and if we treat people that way the world will be a better place. And if we do simple things like not judging people by what they look like You will be happier your family will be happier and everybody around you will be happier because like the saying goes "little things make a big difference" and that is true trust me on that.

After watching Martin Luther King's speech about racism and equality and his famous lines "I have a dream that one day my four little children will live in a nation where they will not be judges by the colour of their skin but by the content of there character" it was a really nice and inspiring speech and it really got people thinking about what he has gone though so for this weeks blog post we are sup post to write what equality means to me and some ways to make a world where everybody is treated with equality.

So I will start of with "what does equality mean to me"
What equality means to me is including everyone like Martin Luther King said "I have a dream that one day my four little children will live in a nation where they will not be judges by the colour of their skin but by the content of there character" that is what I am talking about because Martin Luther King was living in a world were WAS judged by the colour of his skin and when he was judged by his skin people would think on him as a bad, nothing else just plain bad, and because of people saw him as bad people would not treat him with respect, love or compassion and that's not fair because why SHOULD you be judges by the colour of your skin, and that is not equality.

Another time where equality is not happening is in wonder when Auggie goes to Beecher Prep he is judged by how he looks on the outside and people thought of him as bad and because people thought of his as bad they didn't treat his with respect, love or compassion so most of the people ditched him and it made him feel like he was invisible so he had trouble making friends at the start.

So from the two examples I have given make it clear that what equality means to me is treating every one equal no matter what they look like, the colour of their skin, the age that they are, the religion they follow, or the gender the are you should treat everyone with respect, love and compassion.

1. The first way that I think that we can help make a world were everyone is treated equally is by treating everyone the same way our selves, so if we want to make a world were everyone is treated equally we have to start it by treating every one that we know equally

2. The second way that I think that we can make a world were everyone is treated equally is if we see a situation were someone is not being treated equally go up to them and explain why we should treat everyone with equality.

3. The last way that I think we can do to make a world were every one is treated equally is by using social media to get the message to people and try to spread it and ask them to share it to other people and so on and so on.

what is equality? good Quinton...

I think that equality is when we have equal rights

ex: I am doing the right equality in social studies. people can love who EVER they want, kids can go to school NO MATTER what gender they are, people can have do the same things as other NO MATTER what color or race they are
.

I think that people are people no matter what they look like or what their gender is.

we should not be Jude we are all people and we should have the same rights no matter what.
