We live in an amazing country and in our country we all celebrate the holidays differently. There are many different religions, traditions, and celebrations. For your blog post this week, your job is to describe your favourite tradition that you celebrate with your family. This can be related to your religion, the winter holidays, or anything else that your family celebrates at any time of year. I think that this time of year is a great one for thinking about our families and what great things we do with them. These are the traditions that will live on in your memories as you become older. These will be the things that you might choose to do with your children if you choose to have them one day. So, take some time to think about what you really enjoy with your family and describe it for us!

On July 1st on Canada day we celebrate by going to Niagara Falls. We all go to a hotel that is named the Sheraton. The Sheraton has a great view of the falls that me and my brother look at a lot. Later we usually got to the little town that is behind the hotel where there are restaurants, rides, souvenir shops, mini putting and MORE!

My holiday that I celebrate is CHRISTMAS. What I do is on christmas eve we visit all of are family and we feast on food and pray to god one by one. In my country we call it Noche buena. We also stay up until 12:00 am midnight then we exchange gifts and play many games like scooping the money blindfolded, we also like to open a few of our presents. We also decorate are house with colourful lights like white, yellow, rainbow lights and a chirstmas tree. That is what I celebrate but the most important thing is that we spend time with family!

For a tradition that our family does is that we always invite our grandparents . After we invite them they come over in there pjs and we all wear our pjs and open all of our gifts. When all the gifts are done being opened we always have orange juice and make a big dinner. After the dinner they go back to their house but not for long because we invite them BACK over again for a big dinner and we now kinda as a tradition we make this dessert that is basically like a deep fried chip with sugar on it and we have a sweet sauce with chocolate chips on it. I have done that all the christmas' I have been alive for. The second and last one is just we go downtown usually at the start of December or a little bit later. With my grandparents we go to see all the lights near the lake. We have done that for a while and I really enjoy all of the traditions that me and my family do. Hope you all have a great Christmas.

Our family celebrates Christmas with a number of family traditions. Firstly, all the people in my family come to my house. This includes my Grandparents (my mom's parents) and my Uncle Keith (this is my mom's brother). Unfortunately. my other Grandma (my dad's mom) can't join us as she sends the winters in Florida. Secondly, we wake early on Christmas morning and wake up everyone in the house. We then come downstairs to see what Santa has left! The unwrapping begins with Shayla and I unwrapping our stockings and then everyone else joins in. After the stockings are opened, we move onto the gifts. After all the gifts are open and we clean up, my grandpa and I make eggs benedict for everyone! Once breakfast is done, I help my Grandpa prepare the turkey for dinner later in the evening. When the turkey is ready, we all sit down as a family for a delicious meal and are thankful that we are all together. After dinner, my mom cleans the kitchen and the rest of us lay on the couch, stuffed!

At Christmas we all work together to wrap gifts and prepare the decorations. Our favourite thing to do is make cookies. We enjoy taking cards and gifts to some of our neighbours. One of our friends is Jewish and so we try to have a get together to celebrate Hannukah with them. They have a beautiful menorah.

We usually have a few breakfasts or dinners will all of the family and our cousins. We eat lots and lots of food and exchange gifts. The adults draw a name for a secret Santa stocking. It is always funny.

We always have a fun new years and watch the ball drop on tv in New York City. My sister and I get to stay up late and we have a fun night.

My family celebrates Diwali or as many people call it the festival of lights . This festival is India's most important festival of all times sure there is Vaisakhi ( when Sikhism was born ) or Gurpurab ( which is when the first guru was born ) and many other festivals from India but Diwali is the most important one now Aikam what do you do on Diwali and why do you celebrate it?? Well on Diwali we decorate our house with candles we go to the gurdwara sahib -the temple and pray to god most people in India go to the golden temple or Amritsar . Now Aikam tell me why do we celebrate Diwali well I don't really know a lot of information and I think once again I THINK
it is because us Sikhs celebrate a victory of the 6th guru Guru Hargobind who came back from the designs of Emperor Jahangir, who had imprisoned him and 52 other princes with him, in 1619. Guru Hargobind refused to leave the prison for freedom until he was able to bring all of the princes with him. so yeah also another thing we do on Diwali is rangoli some of you might know it as colorful sand. If you search up rangoli it will show you pictures of rangoli in so many cool design's !

Out of all my family traditions, my favourite one to celebrate is Christmas. Especially because my family and I have always loved Christmas, it’s so fun to do ALL the christmasy things, even when there’s no snow!

Christmas activities I enjoy are skating, Springridge Farms and sledding. Usually my grandparents would take me to the skating rink at Spencer Smith Park, near their house and we would go skating. Sometime’s I would go with my cousin, Maddie. Not all the time, because she lives in Toronto. The next activity is visiting Springridge Farms! At that place, in the winter we would decorate ornaments and gingerbread with smarties and icing! It would be so much fun, but we have not gone in the last two years due to Covid. We do visit to pickup a few Christmas decorations, though. My last favourite activity is sledding! I love sledding because every place I go to sled is SO much fun, because of big hills. I also like it when people use snow to build mini ramps, and although they look small they send you flying. The only downside to sledding is the fact you have to walk ALL the way up the mountain, carrying a sled just to sled again. Although it is worth it and will stay first place as my favourite Christmas activity, that you can also do after Christmas!

Holiday treats

At Christmas, there are a whole bunch of holiday treats I love. Gingerbread is one of them, because I would decorate one at Springridge Farms. Or I can get really delicious ones from Denninger’s, one of my favourite restaurants. The next holiday treat is hot chocolate! I like drinking hot things, and it’s so easy and fun to make hot chocolate. I can have it with anything, like watching a movie. Sometimes I would use hot chocolate powder from the store, or heat up chocolate milk. Last but definitely not least are candy canes! Candy canes come in many flavours and they taste amazing. My favourite candy cane flavour is Caramel! Overall my favourite holiday treat would be candy canes, or gingerbread!

Decorating

One of my favourite parts about Christmas is decorating, since it really gets you in the Christmas vibe. I love decorating the tree, and once I decorate with my family my elf on the shelf comes. My elf’s name is Sparkle Shine, and she is watching me as I type this paragraph right now. My family and I decorate the house with lots of beautiful Christmas decorations everywhere! In our home there are lights everywhere, towels and blankets that are Christmas themed everywhere, Christmas candle themed lights and more. The moment you step into my house in the month of December, all you see is Christmas decorations! We turn the lights on a lot too when we watch holiday movies, like Christmas classics and are favourites home alone 1 and 2. Also the movie Elf which is amazing!

On Christmas Eve my Family and I go to church and light a candle for Jesus as a blessing. We bring the light home and let it burn for 3 days. this has been tradition for many years. On Christmas day we get together with all of our Family open presents and have a big dinner. We usually do Family fun things like Just Dance, that has to be one of my favorites. This year my Mom has a surprise for the Family so it will be fun to see what it is.
