Failure: It's AWFUL but great?

11/5/2015

Picture
This week, we looked at our learning skills and took some time to be very reflective of our own learning so far this semester.  For this week I want you to continue to be reflective on your learning, and your personality and to think about failure.  Failure isn’t fun, it never feels good, and sometimes it can be downright embarrassing!  The crazy thing about it though, is that it’s through failure that we do our biggest amounts of growing as students, as learners, and as people.  In your blog post this week, I want you to think back on this past month, week, year, etc. and write down 3 times that you failed or weren’t successful on something you tried.  Write down what happened, why you feel that you failed and what you learned from this failure.
My example for this week:
One of this biggest learning times I have ever experienced is when I was in teacher’s college.  I had a class of grade 6’s and I was teaching them about finding volume of triangular prism.  I had the vice principal in the class watching and I TAUGHT IT TO THEM WRONG! I got confused with the numbers and the vice-principal had to come up and help me with the lesson.  What I learned from that failure was that: 1. preparation is key when teaching any lesson  and  2. Mistakes happen and you have to be able to accept that as a teacher.

1.One embarrasing moment for me was when I was in grade 2 and our class was playong freeze dance, the music stopped, but I didn't notice,so I carried on dancing. Everyone started staring at me and giggling. When I finally realized what was going on,I felt so embarrased with myself, but it was actually very funny,sp I ended up laughing.
This mistake taught me to always focus on my surroundings and to dance less crazy,so if this ever happens again,I might not look as silly.

2.Another time, in grade 3, we were taking a quiz about time, and people in my table group were asking me for an answer, even though I wasn't supposed to,I gave them one,and it ended up being incorrect, they got mad at me,and I felt very guilty afterwards.
This fail taught me to always double check my work,AND NEVER GIVE PEOPLE ANSWERS TO ASSIGNMENTS!

3.When I was about 3 or 4, my family went on a camping trip, and there was a little icecream shop, my mom bought me a big colourful icecream cone, and we went to a bench so I could eat it,and just like in TV,I guess I licked so hard,I pushed the icecream right off the cone, and on to the ground! I was very little, and of course,I started crying. There was this one old lady who started laughing and people around us were staring. It was not that embarrasing then, but now when I look back on it,it is very embarrassing!
This taught me to be careful when holding precious things(like icecream)

All these mistakes and failures might be embarrassing, but you can look at them a different way,we all have embarrassing moments,so don't be upset by them, laugh at them, learn from yoir mistakes.

1. When I was in kindergarten, I was suppose to think of a happy word in Chinese or something like that but I didn't know what to say so I didn't answer then the teacher came over o me and told me what I could say but back then I was better at Chinese then english.
2. When I was in grade one I was given a test at the end of the year and it was like multiplication and stuff that I didn't learn and I was stuck on one question ( Well all of it. ) So I think I basically gave up but now I know that I have to try my best. ( Never Give Up. )
3. At camp this year I was learning how to make a fire with only wood. I was trying to find some wood, ( But I was in a group. ) I only got one type of wood but there were 3 types of wood I was suppose to get then when I tried to make the fire with my group, ( I was the only one who got wood. ) we started to try to make a fire but of course it didn't work and then I learned not to only pay attention to one thing.

When you make a mistake, you learn from it and that is why mistakes are learning!

One thing I have failed at is keeping my finger nails intact! When I was 8 I was measuring myself to see how tall I was. I was entering my garage to get the measuring tape and the door slammed behind me ripping out my middle finger nail. I started to scream. I was in so much pain I ran into my and kept screaming. My parents were coming downstairs and were surprised that that happened. When I went to the doctors he told me to stick my middle finger up at him. I thought that was funny that it happened to be my middle finger.
At that one moment I was depressed and hurt.

Another time is at a hockey tournament, my team didn't win ONE game! It was the worst tournament I have ever been in! After I came home I was really upset and mad that we didn't win a single game.

A time I have been embarrassed is when my dog Tyson has humped another dogs leg. I am sure you don't want to hear about it.

Thank You For Listening

I have done a number of embarrassing fails in my lifetime, and I'm sure I'll have more as I grow older and I look forward for learning from each one of them. These are my top 3 most embarrassing moments.

1. This past summer I broke my arm and when I was pretty much healed my family and I were swimming in a pool. My sister and I started diving threw pool tubes and on my 3rd try I actually missed the tube and almost re-broke my arm. I learnt from this experiences to always be careful with injures and to aim better before jumping.

2. When I was about 8 I was coming home from a soccer game in the summer my hands slipped carrying the family ipad and I dropped the I pad screen face down. I felt so bad I put myself on my on timeout. From this experience I learnt to handle things more gentle especially expensive Items.

3. When I was about 6 years old my family and I were spending the weekend at my cousins house. We went tubing and a family friend was driving us around in his boat. My mom and I decided to go together. he was driving so reckless the minute we got on he almost ran into a bunch of seagulls so he turned sharply and we feel right out of the tube and onto the seagulls. I learnt to always make sure I trust the person driving the boat.

Everyone has embarrassing things that happen to them in their lives but right now I'm about to tell you 3 embarrassing things that happened to me in my life...

1. The first thing that happened to me was last year when my class was playing football. I wasn't watching the football at the time and then it hit me on the head and it hurt. What I learned from this is to always keep my head up and to pay attention.

2. The second thing that happened to me was when I left my hat in the girls change room. I had to run back to school to get it. What I learned is that I to always look around before I leave so you don't forget something.

3.The last thing that was embarrassing happened to me in 3 on 3 hockey. Someone passed the puck from the corner and I missed the puck. It went straight into the other corner. What I learned from this is to keep my eyes on the puck.

Those are a few things that have embarrassed me but there are many more. What I learned was to not let silly things embarrass you and try to laugh them off.

1.One time I was in Gr.1 and just started to go to a new school and I needed to go to the washroom she said yes so I went to the washroom and I thought I was going to the girls washroom but instead walked into the boys and saw the boys and then I ran out of there and then also on the way back I forgot where my classroom was so I walked into one classroom thinking it was my classroom but it was a Gr.5 class I felt really embarrassed because everybody was laughing at me.I feel that I failed because I should have known better and known where my class was and I also feel I failed because everybody was laughing at me. I learned that I should look at signs on the washroom door and that I shouldn't care what people think of me and just go with the flow and also that I should have asked for help when I needed it.

2.Another time was when I was in Pakistan in 2013 and I went to a park near my family's house and I saw some type of a levelled climbing thing sort of like a monkey bar so I started climbing and I was really short then and I decided to jump up and then grab one of the monkey bar so I did that but instead of holding it my hands were sweaty and I slipped off and fell head first my uncle and my cousins started laughing at me but instead of crying I just laughed along because I have to admit it was quite funny. I feel I failed because my goal was to hold on but I slipped and didn't reach my goal. I learned that I shouldn't have that much self-confidence but I should still have confidence and I shouldn't do stunts like that again.

3.Also when I was in Gr.5 I met a really amazing and smart friend which then became my BFF she was really smart and pretty and everything I thought I could never be like her but then one day I decided to think all out like her because that's what get's her good marks so I thought on my own and then when I was done and the teacher gave the paper back I saw that I got the question wrong and all my thinking was also wring and I felt really embarrassed because me and her we shared all of our marks but I was too embarrassed to show it. I feel I failed because my goal was too get a really good mark but I failed and got a really bad mark. I learned that I shouldn't try to be like someone else and I should just focus on being myself.

Through out all of the embarrassing things I have done through my life I learned that I should just be myself through it all and instead of breaking down and crying just laugh along and everything will be fine. Also you shouldn't care about what people think of you.

The 3 embarrassing things that happened to me...

1. When I was in grade 5 after school I had to go in the bus but then I missed the bus so I was thinking that I could run home so when I got home I forgot that my brother was in the bus and nobody was taking care of him. I learned that I have to think of my choices before I do it.

2. When I was 10 years old I had a newspaper job and I was supposed to do the newspaper route but I was playing outside with my friends that I forgot to do the newspapers. I learned that when I wanna know if I'm busy I check my calendar or mark when I am busy on my calendar.

3. I once had $50.00 in my credit card from my newspaper job then I wanted to buy an apple $10.00 gift card off of eBay which usually cost more than its supposed to cost in Canada so when it got to Canada it usually did not work because it was from America so that means I just wasted some of my money for no reason. One thing I learned on that day is when I have enough I could just save up for something very cool like right now I am saving up my money to buy a robot friend i could build from meccano it's called Meccanoid G15 and make sure to check that it's in Canada and check if it can ship to where I live.

I have three things to tell:
1. I lost my IPad on an airplane, now I can't play the IPad any more. I'm
very sad. What I learn from this is I should check all the things I have when I leave a place.

2. I played basketball last weekend and I lost the game! What I learn from
this is there is always win and loose for races. We should learn to accept it,
because no one can win all the time.

3. I am leaning swimming now. last week the coach asked us to jump in
to a two meter deep pool. Although I wore life jacket, I was still scared. When I came home I thought I should be more brave. I should trust the
coach to keep safe. And I did it yesterday!

1: One time in one of my soccer games we were losing 10-0 and our whole team was confused. We played terrible, and just as I thought it couldn't get any worse I tried to pass the ball to my goalie. The ball was going so slowly it wasn't funny, then I noticed that my goalie wasn't goin for he ball. It went in and it was 11-0. I learned to never over estimate anyone in what they are doing.

2: I was about 4 and I was at my grandpas farm. My cousins and I were playing tag on a slippery floor. They were taunting me to get me to run faster. One of the, said something that made me turn around and bolt towards them. I stood on a table, jumped, missed my cousin and sliced my forehead on my grandpas piano. I learned after that to know my surroundings and the activity I am doing there.

3: When I was 5 I went to the rockery store with my grandpa, grandma and cousin. As we entered the store I knew something bad was going to happen, I just didn't know what. Me and my cousin started to play tag and we ran off into he vegetable section. I was it, and I was trying to find my cousin. I ran as fast as I could and saw him with my grandma. I chased him and we went in circles. At the time I wash very bright, so my cousin said "Kai I am in the vegetable section." I sprinted there and saw my grandpa. He said that he was going to go wait in the car and I can go with him or with my grandma. I started walking with him and as we got into the parking lot I said "I'm goin to go with grandma." I ran back in the grocery store and (found them). I went and tapped someone on the shoulder not knowing that she wasn't my grandma. She turned around and gave my a dirty look. I ran to the front screaming as loud as I possibly could. The manager quickly grabbed me and said " calm down, I can help you." I quickly slapped the manager and continued running and screaming. After some time running and screaming, I found my grandma and my cousin. We left and I didn't tell them that I was lost. I learned to always stay with the person watching you and don't run off.

Everyone has embarrassing moments in life. I have had many and I know I will have many more. 3 embarrassing things that happened to me are...

1. When I was about 8 I was at a karate tournament. It was my turn to go up and spar(fighting with gear) against a girl way older and taller than me. The other girl had not been taught the same things I had. So when we were fighting she kept hitting me on the head even though I was not aloud. I was so embarrassed because I lost BADLY. This has taught me to never give up, no matter the size or age you should always believe in yourself.

2. When 10 I was at Costco with my mom. She went to go pick up some bread on the other side of the aisle. She asked me to hold her Costco card will she went to go pick it up. While I was holding it I saw this super comfy couch and I wanted to sit on it. I got up when my mom came back and realized the card was gone. I was so embarrassed. My mom had to go and get a new card. This has taught me to be responsible with my things and other peoples things.

3. When I was about 6 or 7 I went to get my dog's food from my basement. I was walking down the stairs when all of a sudden I fell down. I kept on rolling until I hit the ground. I was crying so loud my whole family came down. I was super embarrassed. This has taught me to always be careful and pay attention.

1. I told myself I was going to keep my desk clean this year but I failed and its really messy. I learned that I should try harder to be more organized.
2. One Easter I was at my grandma's house and she had a sun room with a glass window, I thought the door was open so I jumped into the glass door! It hert A LOT! I learned to use my eyes and watch were i'm going.
3. One day I was hungry so I went into the kitchen to get myself some cheese, I cut so hard I cut myself. I learned to be more careful with sharp items.

These are 3 really embarrassing moment's I have had, but they not only are funny they also were the ones that I learned most from.

1. Once when I was only 3 I went to my Dad's friends house and They had a dog, and back then I was really scared of dogs so the dog was trying to chase me because I was running and I accidentally knocked down a plate of crackers to the floor. My parent`s were so embarrassed .
Now I learned that to not run from dog`s and to be a bit more careful on my surroundings. and after that the dog ended up licking my foot and now I love dogs.

2. Another time I was at summer camp, and we were playing a game called Flinch, so the person in the middle threw the ball to me and I got scared so I smacked the ball and it hit the guy’s face Really hard.
everyone was laughing at Me and I was so humiliated.
I learned from that experience that I should not be scared of the ball.
and not smack it next time to the person in the middle. ( I learned to not smack the ball , but I still am scared of the ball 😆 )

3. The third and final most embarrassing thing that happened to me was at Sears, we only had ½ an hour and Me and my mom just entered the store and when we were passing the girls dress section this lady came up to my mom and said,
“ Excuse me”, “ I am thinking of getting this dress for my daughter and she is the same height as your daughter, do you think she could try on this dress for me just for me to see how this looks” And my mom said “Yes”
even though it is completely my choice. so after I came out of the fitting room looking so ugly, the lady said “ Wow” “she looks so pretty”
“ But too small” so she made me try another dress size and that one was a good size but not perfect she said I had to take the dress of again. and wear another one. it was so annoying. and finally the perfect match.
This may not be embarrassing but it was really annoying and time-wasting.\]
and as I said me and mom only had 30 mins, That lady made me waste 10 mins

There are so many mistakes and embarrassing moments we make in a lifetime but Nobody is Perfect and that is the main key.
so we should all learn from each other’s mistakes.

Everyone has made mistakes in their life and you always learn something from each one. Here are my top 3 embarrassing/failure moments.

1. When I was in grade 3 or 4, we had a breakdancing unit and we could audition to do a solo. I auditioned and got the part with another girl. Once we were preforming the dance, we had to do the helicopter then stand up and turn around. When we were turning around, I accidentally slipped on my shoe lace and fell down and everyone in the audience started laughing. After this experience I've learnt that I should always tie my shoes and make sure I'm ready before a performance.

2. The first day of school in grade 4, I got hit with a soccer ball very hard on my face and it really hurt because an 8th grader kicked it. I learned that I must consider my surroundings.

3. One time when I was younger and didn't really know how to play soccer, I kept on kicking the ball every time it got out and everyone was frustrated at me. After this, I learnt that if I don't know how to do something, I shouldn't be afraid to ask.

I've learnt from every single mistake I have made. When you make a mistake, it is ok but you must learn from your mistakes and try not to repeat them.

These are 3 thing that I failed at and felt REALLY embarrassed when I did it so here is the 1st one

1. Once when I think I was 5 I played in one of those leagues for little kids where the don't even keep score and you remember those Tiny nets with no goalies to make it "easier" for the little kids but frankly I missed the net every time I shot on the net. Okay back on track during one of my games I was playing defense and it was just a normal game slow and I could tell that the parents would rather be dead then watching this game, when a guy kicks it across the field right to me it was going out of bounds when I decided to try to kick it but I almost whiffed on it but I touched it Juuuust enough to redirect it into own net. I couldn't believe it I was just thinking to myself I have 3 options of what I could do 1) just stand there in shock 2) run off the field and cry or 3) run up to the guy who kicked it and kick him. Now lets fast forward to the next summer when again we had a soccer game, again the parents looked bored out of there mind, again a guy (Not the same guy) kicked up the field and AGAIN I redirected it into our OWN NET!! I learned next time to be more careful around the net. :)

2. The second thing that I found really embarrassing was when in grade 4 when it was math time at the start of the unit Mr. Kumagi would give us a test and if you got past a certain mark you would be able go go in this thing called the math group were you would get problems the were more challenging. So anyway I was in the math group one time when I was stuck on this one question when I noticed that Lucas who was also in the math group was done and he had checked with Mr. Kumagi and he also asked to go to the washroom and he left'd his book sheet right next to me and I looked inside it quickly just copied all of the answers that I hadn't got a wrote them on my paper. I ended up getting it all wrong and I don't know if it was Lucas who got it wrong or me who got it wrong but Mr. Kumagi was NOT happy I learned to never cheat of tests.

3. The last thing that I found really embarrassing was when I was playing baseball in a tournament when it was my turn up to bat the pitcher pitched the first pitch it was a ball the second pitch I thought was inside so I basically dived out of the way I looked really funny but the umpire called it a strike I could tell some of the parents were trying to hold in laughing, and then to rap it all up I stuck out and my coach was REALLY mad at me one thing I learned from this is to be more carful

1. In grade 3 I anwserd a qution wrong and everyone laughed at me because I didn't get the quetion right so I was embarressed for the whole day.

2.Was when I was in piano lesson because I messed up the whole song and it was embarrassing.

3.When I was six because I threw up on a plane because I was sick when we were oging to mexico for the week.

1.My first failure is when we did the haunted houses or graveyard cause I looked back at our work and it didn't look like I put in a lot of effort in my work but me and Haider did do a lot of work.
2.The second one was our wonder tabloes cause I don't think I gave very helpful ideas.
3.My third failure is every morning when we do our math question cause I always am dong the wrong steps.

1. in math we did a table of the numbers and the money and failed so many times but of those try I final found it out
2. When we did the prime numbers I always wrote down the wrong number but final I got them right by checking with other people
3. In L.A I mostly fail it was awful but then I final asked mr. steltman and then I got them right

1.One time last year when I was playing hockey I learned that I should aim before I shoot because one time in a game the puck came to me and there goalie was laying on the ice trying to get up so I shot it it went off the post and did not go in.

2.One time in hockey this year my team went down on a 3 on 1 and I shot the puck completely whiffed on it and the goalie made an easy save this taught me to make sure I don't shoot the puck off the end of my stick so it taught me to make sure of that.

3.This last one is about one time in baseball the other team hit a ground ball to me and I missed it and the ball went right through my legs this taught me to always keep my glove down on ground balls.

Here are the three mistakes and embarrassments that have happened in my life and what I have learned from those mistakes

Number 1. The first mistake was when I was in grade two and I was at this camp with Noah and my cousin in the summer (which I hated) so we where playing musical chairs at the camp and Noah was the first one out and we where all running happily around the circle and this time the music went on for a really long times so I was kind of used to it playing ( the song was Yankee Doodle) and when the music stopped I had ABSOLUTLEY NO IDEA the music had stopped playing so I was just running around the circle still looking at the window because they where building over there and at that time I was really interested in building stuff so I was running for a minute then my cousin Noelle said LUCAS YANKEE DOODLE STOPPED so I turned around and saw everybody laughing and I was really embarrassed

What I learned from this experience: I learned from this was to always pay attention and no matter what stay focused on what I am doing whether it is School, Sports, etc. Or even a silly game of musical chairs it doesn't matter just stay focused.

Number 2. The second embarrassment/Mistake was when I was really young maybe in grade one or maybe I was in grade two I don't know well Me and my Older brother Cameron who is four years older that me where in the basement playing something and we got into a humongous fight about something which I cant remember and I actually got so mad that I completely lost it and I went strait for him and hit him but it didn't hurt him because he was so much taller and bigger than me. I ended up getting in humongous trouble and I got grounded for TWO WEEKS and it was just the perfect timing because that was when my grandpa and grandma where coming over so while I was locked in my room the rest of the family where playing WII bowling ( which my grandma was super good at) But it ended up for the better because I learned my lesson and I never did it again

What I learned from this experience was that you always use your words and never hit someone even if you are in a disagreement and you are really mad it doesn't matter don't hurt someone.

Number 3. The third embarrassment/mistake was when I was still really young maybe 5 and this comes in a hockey gam. Back then when you where you they rotated goalies to see if you ended up wanting to be a goalie and you also only played on half ice . (Blake was on my team) well it was my turn to be in net and I was really exited because I have never gone in net before. Well in the game our team scored and I was like YAAAAAAAAY well the person on the other team was really mad so he got the puck out of the net because after a team scored the puck was in play when it gets out of the net well the person on the other team got the puck and ripped a weak puck that slid to me and I was really confident because I didn't let in a goal yet so I stood up and skated towards the puck and I took a big swing but ended up COMPLETLY MISSING THE PUCK and I went right past me and he scored I could see him going YAAAAAAAAAAAAY I was really embarrass

What I learned from this experience was to always keep your head on the ball in whatever sport you are in whether it be Hockey, Baseball, etc.

Those where all my embarrassments/mistakes :) :) :) :) :) :)

Here are three of my embarrassing failures.

1. When I was on a stage performing a dance, a girl and I were pulling each other up and her hand slipped off my arm because our costumes were long sleeve making me fall. I was really embarrassed because I was in the front and middle so I thought it was really bad. Even after I performed I was still In shock. What I learned was that everyone makes mistakes and to make sure you costume is all ready.

2. In French class Mlle Gratten asked someone to tell the weather that day in French. I raised my hand and she picked me. I miss heard her so I said an example of any weather which was cold when it was really warm. A few people were laughing and I joined them but I was actually embarrassed. I learned that sometimes people get embarrassed but to just laugh on.

3. When I was playing a game of golf I hit a really bad shot. I got so disappointed it almost ruined the rest of the game. But then I realized that the people who I was playing with also had bad shots. So I know that you can't always have a good shot and that you should just shake it off.

1. The first example of when tried but failed is when I was in a soccer game, playing my best but my team was losing. I was frustrated and I chirped the ref gave me a warning. I learned that my behavior didn’t do anyone any good and my parents got mad at me for not having good sportsmanship.

2. This summer I was bike riding with my cousins in Bronte Park and I wasn’t wearing a helmet. I was trying to keep up with my cousins they were going too fast and I lost control of my bike. My handle bars hit a tree and I went flying off my bike hitting a tree with the side of my head. My aunt called 911 and I was taken by ambulance to the hospital. I had a concussion and a lot of cuts and bruises. I learned how important a bike helmet is and to always go at your own pace.

3. I was shopping with my mom at Sears and wandered off. I decided to walk up the side of the escalator and slide back down. A lady saw me and started screaming at me and then my Mom because she was scared of my safety. I was covered in dust and really embarrassed. I could have made a better choice.

1. I biked to school in grade 5, unaware that I wasn't wearing a helmet. On the way home, Evan told me that I wasn't wearing a helmet. I was a bit embarrassed! I could've wore my helmet.

2. Yesterday, I was playing with Evan outside and I accidentally hit a wheelbarrow full of water! I hit my leg into the handle tip, causing me to fall! The wheelbarrow tipped over, spilled water all over me and gave me a severe bruise in the leg! The pain was so intense! I should always look where I am going.

3. I was on a patio math test with Mr. Steltman. I couldn't even get past the 1st question, so Ms. A let me use a calculator. I ended up failing all the questions, except for question 1! I should think harder next time.

1.my first big fail I want to talk about is when I ran a race (not competitive) I was wearing white pants and fell in to the mud it was not pretty a lot of kids we're laughing at me I was really I learned that I should probably be more careful.

2.It happen this summer I with my friend we were walking down a trail we were running it was fun until I bummed into someone he was riding a bike and we were going down hill and he was going up so we made a big crash. he was with tow other boy's we all went to see if he was ok likely he was fine so learned to watch ware I am going.

3.when I was in my mom and dad's bed they woke me up to go to my room at 12:00 I yelled high ya I was so so so embarrass then I learned I should most likely see who I am talking to before yelling strange things.

1. When I was trying to cycling down a steep hill before I knew it I was in water crying for help. I failed by not staying on the path instead I went strait to water. The lesson I learned is you cant do everything your dad can.t

2. When I was playing soccer at O,S,C I was not that good at defense Because I kept running at them and all they had to do is go right or left and there past me and there in to score. The lesson I learned is don't run at them shadow them.

3. In south Africa with my mom and sister and my BEST BEST BEST FRIEND at the lion park at the baby spot inside there cage 1 started following me then I run as fast as I could to run away but then it got me and then bit me.
