Mr. Steltman - Redirecting ...

An INSANE Jump - Do YOU Believe It?

3/23/2017

Watch the following video of a man jumping out of an airplane without a parachute.  It has 13 million views on youtube.  What I want to know is, do you think it’s real?  What proof do you have that this is true and accurate.  What do the creators of the video do to give this video validity and authenticity?
We live in an era where we hear the term “fake news” constantly.  But can we recognize when news is fake and when it’s real?  For your blog post this week, I want you to jot down how do you recognize when a story is fake, and can you post an example of “clickbait” (screenshot if you can) or describe how you know when something is clickbait.
I can give you a prompt to start your blog:
I think that this video "is" OR "is not" real.  The proof I have for my opinion is …
Write your paragraph that talks about both the video and how you separate fact from fiction when you’re on the internet!

I think that this video is real my proof is. When someone is jumping it looks different when jumping on ground and jumping out of a airplane. Also the gravitational forces are different. When you are jumping from a airplane your face would start to wrinkle if you looked his face was wrinkly. If you were to replicate that with a fan they would have to go to ifly and use their fans, BUT you can't because it would have to be green screened and you most likely aren't going to find a green ifly.

For this weeks homework, I personally think it is a real video. I think this is a fake video because the YouTube channel is like random stuff. But, I think doing a jump like that is possible. With a reinforced trampoline, and perfect timing, it would be successful. I was shocked at the small opening, and that made me think it was impossible. But then I realized it could be possible.

P.S. If this has misspelling, it is because I did this on a phone.

I think that video is fake, because you can't let a people from 6000-10000 m go in to a width 3.5m window. You can't planning the wind.Even if you have machine, the wind can let you far from the target. If you are a god, can planning the wind, you must how fast the people's speed. If you at the 6000m throw a rock, everything will be destroy.Because that is too fast.Next, if this tow because something can be possible, why he just bounce up 1 cm? So I think that video is fake.

From watching this video, it can possibly be fake because if he fell from 10,000 feet in the skies and lands on the trampoline, then it will collapse due to velocity. He will be approximately raising up to 300 kilometers per hour before he falls into the hole. And, it is not possible to go straight into that 3.5 meter hole as what Henry mentioned. Plus, you can tell that he jumped from the roof to the trampoline and if you look close you can see the planing where he jumped. I think this is also for some kind of advertisement and if it was real in general then there would be massive 50 x 50 meter nets and another net to keep it ensured. Here’s the link to the real video where a man jumps from 25,000 feet and lands on nets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaANi96Z-Wg.

I think that this video is real. The proof I have for my opinion is that in the video it said that there is a reinforced trampoline that absorbs the impact of Travis’ fall. The second is the geomagnetic positioning system it is on his belt and it’s going to steer him towards the trampoline park.

On the internet when I want to find something that is true I look for who it’s by like for example if nat geo (National Geographic) then I know it’s true because it’s from a reliable source. For example the people who filmed the end of him jumping on the trampoline is a real reliable news website called Sky News.

For fake news I look for stuff like if it’s by www.cowyduckface.com you would expect it to be fake news: things like someone gets killed by squirrel with no rabies.

So that’s why I think that video is real and that is the difference between fake news and real news.

I don’t think this video is real because …

1. Let’s hope that such a scenario never arises. With a parachute on, you can still hope to land safely, but jumping out of an airplane without a parachute is obviously want to die and you will land very hard even there is a trampoline.

2. It is impossible that you go right through in the small (width 3.5m) hole and lands on the trampoline when you fell from 10,000 feet in the skies.

Well first up you see them in the sky and from multipule defferente angles and as he get closer and closer to the ground. As well as how mush detail and planning was shown on video. I think this is real because...

-All the footage looked good because the backgrounds meshed with the other elements
- A trampoline can take 400 pounds (if it is good) although the ones he was using were "special" so I expect it could take 800-1600 minimum, meaning once he reaches maximum trajectory he could survive, proving it possible (if I'm right)
- Mass x acceleration = power, mass= approx 160 lb or 72.5747792 kg.  Speed is about 30.72 ms.  So all considered he is going to hit at 501.2047929083952 lb or 2229.47 newtons and all considered with the trampolines
-The camera was a bad quality which goes with the whole jumping out of a plane thing
-Although it seems incredible risky, there were people controlling him so he would hit the target
That is why I think it was real!

I separate fact from fiction by looking at the quality compared to the scenario and if this person would be...

c) Still alive

I think it is real because It says they use some sort of a magnet to get pulled into a hole that could seem for real but if they just said they jumped out of a plane with nothing not even a magnet that could seem fake. The footage looked real the guy following him he dint just say close to him because if it was fake they would try to get the best angles but the other guy who was following opened his parachute really early like a normal person should do.

I DO NOT think that this is true. 1. It's cool and all but when the man landed on the trampolines, I think that he would of had some serious injury since he fell from so high and at such a great speed. But he was totally fine. 2. And, even though it had the magnet thing, I think that it would of been too far to work. Even when it got close enough, I think that he would of been falling too fast. 3. That would of been stupid anyway. I mean, it is such a great risk anyway and there is only a small chance that he would even survive. I don't really think anyone would really be dumb enough to do it. I really don't think it's real.

Alex

i think its fake because he jumps and goes really far down and sruvive without even suffering a injury(even if there was a trampoline)i think if this was real it would be a jump from much lower but a 1000ft jump without a parachute on a trampoline.like that just wont happen without gettinng hurt i think if there was a injury i would belive it because then its more realistic

Why so much people think it's real? Hopefully, we won't get trolled by this video!

Tomas
3/28/2017 04:59:21 pm

I think it's fake because of a couple reasons. #1 he could not have gone through that hole in the position he was in, what I mean by that is the wind going against him would not allow him to bring his feet in to fit the hole and also you don't see his legs on the GO pro but you do see them when he's through the hole itself(it defies logic)
#2 nothing but the camera( which is not on the trampolines) falls... not even the kids who are on the trampolines next to him stumble back.#3 the video is most certainly fake because the human body cannot take this sort of speed and just "STOP" even with the "magnets" they were using he could not be alive after that it's just no humanly possible. When he hits the trampoline the absolute minimum injuries he would have would be the loss of his legs and he'd bleed out dead. a few things would happen when he hit the trampoline #1 his legs would explode through his body,#2 his organs would go right threw him and on to the trampoline, #3 he would've bounced back up about thirty thousand feet not five!
The body can't take force of the impact and the body can't be slowed down that quickly.
It takes parachutes about 1000 meters before it slows the human body so it doesn't rupture his organs.
any one else see the fade in/out light when he "went" through the hole? yeah that was an edit if you ever watch you-tubers(he really jumped from the roof, that's how he didn't kill himself with even the bounce).
another thing, when watching it on you-tube you can see that they disabled comments on the video(to keep people from telling the world how it's fake) any ways in short the human body would be absolutely destroyed by a fall by that height... even with the "special" trampolines.

I think it's fake because of a few reasons. Firstly, he could not have gone through that hole in the position he was in. The wind going against him, so shouldn't have allowed him to bring his feet inside to fit the hole. Also, you don't see his legs on the GO Pro until he's actually in the hole. It defies logic.
Secondly, nothing but the camera (which is not on the trampolines) falls; not even the kids who are on the trampolines next to him stumble back. Finally, the video is most certainly fake because the human body cannot take this sort of speed and then just STOP. Even with the magnets they were using, he could not be alive after that jump, it's just not humanly possible. When he hit the trampoline at the very least,he would have lost his legs and bled. A few things would happen when he hit the trampoline; his legs would explode through his body; his organs would go right through him and spill on to the trampoline; and he would have bounced back up about thirty feet not five feet!
The body can't take the force of the impact and the body can't be slowed down that quickly.
It takes a parachute about 1000 meters before it slows down the human body so it doesn't rupture organs.
Did anyone else see the fade in/out light when he fell through the hole? Yeah, that was an edit. If you ever watch a famous YouTuber you'll know what that is. he really jumped from the roof not the plane, that's how he didn't kill himself with the bounce.
Another thing, when watching it on Youtube you can see that they disabled comments on the video(to keep people from telling the world how it's fake). Anyway, in short the human body would be absolutely destroyed by a fall from that height... even with the 'special' trampolines.

I think this video is not real because there's no way you can fall through a such small opening, the wind will pull you far away from the target. The man might have just jumped from the roof, because the spot he fell through was exactly perfect. And even if you landed on the trampoline, you would probably get injured, because the speed is too fast and the gravity is too strong. For example if you drop something from high in the sky, it would get badly damaged due to the gravitational forces.

Haya
3/30/2017 05:42:04 am

I don't think this video is real
Cause in the air the wind is so strong that could pull you side to side
And when he was close to the tiny opening how can he fit there is he was in air on flat but how did he exactly fit the spot ?? And landed perfectly on the trampoline ...

I think this video is fake because when you are falling down you go really fast and it is hard to control where your going, also since there is wind the wind will blow you from side to side making it hard for you to fall in the right spot. There is such a small opening, and it would be really hard to come through that hole and the way he fell in the whole was perfect and that probably would not of happened if you actually did it. Another reason I think it is fake is because of the trampoline even if you landed on the trampoline because of the speed your falling and the force of the gravity is really strong. That is why I think it is fake.

This is completely fake news. For my proof I was looking at multiple websites (http://www.snopes.com/photos/advertisements/trampolinejump.asp) (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2850142/Incredible-video-reveals-moment-thrillseeker-freefalls-plane-WITHOUT-parachute.html) that told me SKY NEWZ is not even a real news agency the real one is called Sky News(http://news.sky.com/).

While I was doing research about the video, multiple web sites verified that the video was actually just a advertisement for Sector 6’s new trampoline park. As well my commonsense thinks he would have cut right through the trampoline. That is my argument that this is fake news.

Here is an example of click bait(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrvfoybj98Q). Click bait is when someone tricks the viewer into watching the videos by lying about what the video is about.

Fake!! My proof is well first of all who in the world would sign up for this and who would help that person! I know I wouldn't want to be apart of some ones suicide plans!! Another reason is that when he was on the trampoline and getting up. I noticed that a bit of his foot was on the yellow part of it and I believe that part is hard. Oh and after he could stand You would aspect him to sit for a bit so the because of the shock it all. But lets back track a bit when he was going through the whole in the roof you only see his feet and NOT HIS HANDS! This could mean that the video was edited after. What I mean is that the other person with the guy I think her name was Sara Could have stayed a wile and garbed the guys arms. And the part were he fell into the building well he could have gone up onto the roof after and jumped. for when you saw them from the ground falling a dummy that they had dropped to the ground. There you have it fake!

I think this video is fake because I never heard of technology that can move someone mid air, If you go to there youtube channel and go to category it says comedy and most comedy are skits which are mostly fake, in this video say he will fall onto a reinforced
trampoline since this guy fell from really high he should have broken because the reinforcements are not under the black bouncey pad part of a trampoline.

Josh
3/30/2017 04:53:06 pm

I think this video is fake. I support that by saying, jumping out of a plane without a parachute and landing in a tiny little hole that is almost the height of him is just physically impossible. They tried to back their idea up with they attached a magnet to him pulling him towards were they want to be. At the force he was going and plus the weight and plus the size of the magnet, excuse my language but sounds like a load of bull crap. (Run On Sentences Exampled Here). Another way I can tell it is most likely fake is that this is and will be considered commit suicide. Which you are not influenced or aloud to do. All the scientists are smart, not stupid enough to let someone jump out of a helicopter without a parachute, without sending a dummy first. And if those scientists are part of the society and contribute to it for research and stuff like that, then they would not allow him to do this.

To find click bait, go to YouTube.com. Its easy to find it on the first page you are on. (Looking at you Roman Atwood). Also you can look for animation, Photoshop, and sometimes it can just seem, "Ultimately Sketchy" in general.

i believe that this video is completely fake. i mean, really, at this velocity he would've been dead or paralysed. as you can see, we barely see his face in this video, and if he really did jump, it would be all wrinkled up. you only see a speck falling down at some points, and wouldn't the wind have pushed him farther away from the TINY hole? note i say TINY. at the velocity that he was going, it would've been pretty IMPOSSIBLE to use the sharp reflexes he did, and land strait into the hole. NOTE that he ALSO LANDED AND BOUNCED?!?!?!? At that speed, he would've ripped through the "Special" trampolines. thats why i think that this video is fake. I don't think the jump was real because…

1. There's no way you can fall through a such small opening
2. The wind will pull you far away from the target
3. If you landed on the trampoline you would probably get injured because the speed that you're falling at is too fast and gravity is too strong
4. Another thing is that the guy was in slightly different positions when right before going through the hole and then landing on a trampoline

That is why I think the jump was fake though it looked cool.

Thomas
3/30/2017 07:01:18 pm

I personally think that this video is fake because of so many reasons, I think the main reason that can support my idea is that when he made the jump there were two incredibly important things. The magnet, and the area (hole which he lands into). Both of those things wouldn't have made a huge difference because jumping out of the plane from that high with a magnet so small it would basically be impossible. Also with a landing hole that small you wouldn't be able to see it from 9000 feet in the sky, you can see that there is some green neon tape around the square shaped hole. You couldn't possibly see it until maybe a thousand feet away, but remember he has no parachute and couldn't really decide where to land. Another reason I think this is a fake video is because he lands perfectly into the hole, and also how did the trampoline basically not react to a high speed fall? It would have at least made the guy bounce up and down because of the speed he would've gotten to when he jumps down from the airplane. For me I personally don't get why anybody would take such a risk, even if he just hit the side of the hole it would have broken some bones. If something this crazy happened at least National Geographic would cover it like this story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qF_fzEI4wU. It was published by a channel that doesn't even have a camera that can film over 240p (lol). Anyway the instruments that show how far away the jumper was from the ground was not something that top of the line scientists can do, I bet some of the students in this class can make something that can show the number decrease rapidly. Another thing that was kind of weird was that the people analyzing the fall was in a conference room of some type, why wouldn't they be at the scene? It would prove that those number can be completely false and fake. It also showed a jumper with a gopro filming above the guy, why not just put it on the guy himself? Maybe because this video is fake..... Anyway I listed my reasons to support my answer.

Feroz
3/31/2017 04:19:59 am

FAAAKE!!!!! This video was fake because when he jumped he had a magnetic device and he would have been going at such a high speed that he wouldn't have able to land. SPEAKKINNGGG of land how did he land in the video . He definetly could not land on his feet because he could have snapped his shins. This is why i think this video is fake!!!!!!!!

Kate
4/1/2017 01:04:05 pm

I think that this video may be real, because, when the 'specially reinforced trampoline' was talked about, no one said with what, so we can assume that it was strong stuff.
The camera footage was shaky and grainy, with a pixelated effect that is hard to fake. Everything in the video melded together nicely, and didn't stand out sharply like green-screened stuff in movies does.
While the wind and speed of the fall would push Travis side to side, the natural magentics of the Earth are stronger, so steering the man would be possible.
When the man fell, he instantaneously crumpled in such a way that would make sense with the angle he was falling.
All in all, I think the root of this video was real, but editing could have happened along the way to make the stunt look more impressive.
