A Pelican Learns To Fly:  Practice Descriptive Writing.

9/18/2014

Watch the video of the pelican learning to fly. Think back to what we learned this past week about descriptive writing: using all five senses to describe something, making it seem real to the reader, grabbing the reader with powerful adjectives.  Imagine you have to describe this to someone who cannot see the video and all they will have are your words.  Write a paragraph that describes this flight.  Pay attention to the scenery, the emotions the people on shore must be feeling, and ALL FIVE SENSES!
If you need a sentence starter: "A lonely pelican floats through the clear blue water ..."

On a practically empty beach in Tanzania a few people helping to teach a deserted pelican to fly get to see the pelican fly over clear blue waters during a beautiful sunset.
A 2 minute long first flight is very exciting for spectators and the caregivers of the pelican. Teaching the pelican involve running up and down the beach, spreading and flapping their arms. It took the pelican 3 months to learn, which isn't to long, but at least he can fly now and find a new flock to join

The pelicans first fly is like us learning how to walk.It stumbles and falls just like we do. The beautiful scenery is like looking down from an airplane or helicopter seeing what you miss just on the ground. You can feel yourself cutting through the misty wind.It is a sunset and you see the beautiful colors of the sky, like coming home after you have been away for years.

A pelican is a beautiful animal with his white neck dark brown feathers of his wings and orange feet. He takes off nervously, afraid he will fall while using all his chest muscle strength to push himself off the ground. Flapping is wings every second flying a few feet above the shinny glow of the water and a pinkish orange sunset behind him. He decides to challenge himself tilting 25 degrees to the left and slowly approaching land as getting the hang of it. As the sun brightly glimmers behind him as he land his feet in the warm sand at the seashore, happy of his first flight.

A lonely pelican floats in the water beside a wrecked wooden boat. A bald man in white found the pelican on a beach beside wooden chairs and a table. The pelican can't fly so he puts it on a post holds it and lets it flap its wings it flies for a bit. The pelican is walking next to a wooden house with a palm fronds roof. two people are watching it a boy walks up to it and flaps his arms like wings and then acts like hes gliding. The pelican starts running across the beach and starts flying low to the ground it makes it across the water a little island and turns back. It learned how to fly!

Your house was looking safely across the vast ocean, suddenly a big shadow whisked by. You rush to look out the window that looks over the ocean, then you see something strangely white out the shiny window. As the vast white dot comes back around and heads towards the beach, you suddenly realize that it was just the local pelican. It must of took its first flight. The pelican looked proud flying across the water and as you looked at it you felt a surge of pride too. It was one of the best feeling you've ever felt because you helped raised the pelican with your village. You were so happy at that moment you were crying.

The pelican spreads his dark lush wings that let him glide. He's done this many times before, flying and than something goes wrong and he ends up falling on the burning sand that seers his pale webbed feet. Not this time this he's going to do it, this time he's going to fly but he doesn't just fly he soars. Now that he can fly he's free and he will never forget this wonderful experience or what it took to get him here.

Feel your feet in the warm sand and the pelican runs and runs in the warm sand and there is cold water ahead and he flaps his wings hard like a human flapping his arms. The pelican keeps flapping his wings to stay in the air and to go up above the cold water. He takes short breaks to rest his wings and he feels the air gently blow on his face.

As an ordinary pelican swims along a lake in Tanzania, desperate to learn to fly. It swims down to the beautiful beach to where a few humans were. They were glad to help but then again, they were not birds.
As they work hard to help the pelican, it takes it's first elegant glide on the beach. It makes few feet, but these determined people keep trying to help the pelican fly. They flap their wings and try to "teach", and the pelican does the same. It takes off into the sun above the water, flapping it's wings elegantly once again, flying around the amazing setting. As the pelican returns to the beautiful beach, the humans are glad to see the pelican once again.

The beautiful pelican learning to fly on a basically clear beach in tanzania with humans wich is rare because birds fly away when humans are close so the pelican had a advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage was that he would learn faster because he is surrounded but the disadvantage is hes getting rushed by the humans and he turns out flying after all a amazing flight across the deep blue waters lf the oceans.

I ran through the soft sand, bits and grains going on my light orange flippers. Struggling to try to get my wings to collaborate with the hard blowing wind, flapping my wings as hard as I could. Just reaching the clear blue water, I jumped and glued my eyes shut. Waiting for the worst to come. Noticing the aqua water below I gasped and smiled a big dorky smile, I was flying!

Hi I am the pelican. One day I lost my family, I kept wondering around
across the blue surface. Later the humans saw me, I didn't know what to do, I tried to swim away, but the humans caught me. After they put something on my bill. Like what was that for? Somehow they knew I couldn't fly, so they tried to teach me. Guess what? I can fly! Thanks to the humans.

A lonley pelican trys its best to fly after its parents died. To practice it flapps its long feathery wings as it runs across the beach. The hot sand gets cooler as the day goes on. The pelican flapps its wings as it lifts itselt of the sand it soars over the clear blue water the pelican can see nothing but the gleaming sun. It had done it and he was ready to do anything.

There once lived a pelican that had lost his parents on the beautiful beaches of Tanzania. A group of bird doctors who help birds around the world went to that beach and they found that pelican. When they found that pelican they figured out he could not fly. They got the pelican and started to train it to fly. They trained it by holding it by its body while it flaps its wings, and running down the beach flapping their arms while the pelican mimicked them. After three months of training the pelican was ready to make the flight of his dreams! The doctors strapped a GoPro camera to the pelicans beak. On the flight it flew by these nice green trees and the nice blue water that glared into your eyes and a anchored boat. The most surprising part was when he actually flew right back to the doctors can you believe it?!

A pelican is learning how to fly on the clear beaches of Tanzania, it spreads it's dark wings to glide through the skies. It falls down and never gives up when the, pelican got the hang of it, it
notices beautiful scenery flying down to the water. The pelican is like us humans we couldn't run or walk when we were younger, and neither could the pelican fly. We learned and so did it.

A pelican is found in a beach located in the Mahale Mountains,Tanzania. He doesn't know how to fly and he lost his parents during a big storm. Bird experts are trying to teach him how to fly by going up and down the beach flapping their arms, hoping that the pelican will copy them. It takes 3 months but with the experts help the pelican is able to flap his wings and soar through the air.

On a beach in Tanzania, there was clear blue water, perfectly white soft sand and a pelican that couldn't fly. Some people from, GoPro helped the pelican by holding just under the pelicans white wings and held the pelican up so the pelicans wings would extend outwards. Also the people from GoPro ran around in the sand with the pelican flapping their arms so the pelican would copy them! Finally the beautiful white pelican took off as it flew just above the clear blue water.

The first time I tried flying i fell on to the yellowish sand it felt hot and I had a feeling I could do it if I tried harder. The next thing I knew this man was picking me up I panicked I tried to get free I flapped my wings and he finally let me go after that tight grip I flew away I saw the sunset it was so nice a bright yellow sun with clouds next to it in the color of pale white it was beautiful

A lonely pelican floats through the clear blue water and is rescued by animal doctors that over a couple of months try to teach him to fly. They tried and tried , they threw the big beautiful bird up into the air and ran down the beach flapping their arms. Finally, the pelican flew. He flew over the beautiful white sand and over the crystal blue waters. Now this pelican can soar into the skies and never look back.

these bird scientists find a pelican in the water and after a while they find out he can't fly and that he lost his family in a storm! so the
scientists try to teach it how to fly but at first it's not successful until the
pelican takes of into the air! right next to the clear blue water but the cool thing was that he actually came back!
