Writing Letters & Reflecting

6/18/2017

Congratulations to each and every one of you as you begin to think about your summer and the completion of a very successful school year! End of year is always a time of reflection, to take stock of what you completed, what you were most proud of and what you still want to accomplish next year.  With that thought in mind, I’m going to give a choice on a letter you can write.  I will give you three choices on the letter that you can write:
  1. A letter to your classmates this year -- thank them for specific events, a look back on great things that we’ve accomplished, showcasing positives from this year, or anything that talks about the incredible work we’ve done this year.
  2. A letter to your future teacher -- this is a chance to talk about you as learner, what do they need to know about you, what are your learning quirks, you struggles, your goals, how can they help you learn.  If you write this letter, I will help you print off a copy to bring with you on your first day of school so that your teacher can benefit from what you already know about yourself as a learner.

So for my blog post I am also writing a letter for Mr. Steltman (Like Henry)
1. (Letter to some classmates)
Thank you to the robot crew that worked on Vaq. I had such a good time sitting down and coding with you guys, even though most of you stopped half way through the year, I still want to thank you for working with me and coding the challenges we went through. I also thank you for the times were the team was stumped and someone solved the issue. I had such a great time with the crew and the rest of the class, thanks humans.
2. (Letter to my future teacher)
Well first up. Hi teacher, how ya doing. Well to the letter.
Dear Teacher,
I hope to move on to grade seven and have a good teacher, I know anyone can fil that role, but only some can do it well. I think one of those teachers is you. You will be a good teacher and teach us many things, and you will make a good year. I really don't know what to say now.
Bye
3. Grade 6 has been my favorite year so far, yes partly because of the activities. But also because of the teacher. Mr. Steltman has given us opportunities to mold our selves into smart and cool people, and all of us have succeeded. I want to that you for being a good teacher and giving us the best year ever and making the whole year fun, instead of just one day. You have gave me a really good year and one that I will remember forever.

Dear 6-2,
I don't think you all know how much you've done for me this year. I always say I love this class, and that will always be true. We are such a unique and smart group of kids, each and every one of us. Our talent comes in many different forms, and for the first time in a long time, I can be myself more than ever. In honour of this amazing year and experience, I wrote a short story. I promise, it really is short.
The sun streamed through the streaked windows, the exact same way it did on my first day here. It was like nothing had changed at all. Students were hard at work, and the click-clack of fingers on keys matched the sound of the rain that came down mere days before. But everything had changed. I wore my heart on my sleeve, knowing the people around me would not shame me for it. I was myself. I looked up from my computer to look at the remnants of my year. Robots were broken down and placed in stacked crates. Charts were disappearing from the walls. It was all so very bittersweet, knowing that it would never be like this again. But the past will always stay with me, and in my final moments of this year, I won't cry at the uncertainty of the future, I'll grin, remembering the countless smiles this class has brought to my face, and the support you will continue to give, even as we're seperated. I love you all more than you could know. (No, not like that Rumaysa.)

I know, I know. I used a comma instead of a period. Deal with it! ;)

Dear Class 6-2,

Guys I am not going to lie. You guys have given me so many laughs this year which make for some of the best memories, like when we all get so competitive in gym class on which team will win an which will lose. #KnightsAllTheWay, but I noticed something this year. I noticed that even though we all seem like very loud and hard to handle students, we all share one thing in common we share how we are still just young kids learning, some kinds already have their future while others are still figuring out what they wanna be. And most importantly. We are all doing our best to be ourselves. This class let me be myself I wasn't judged once NOT ONCE! (That is a record for me since I have a really crazy soul). Everyone in this class has a soul, heart, and brain of our own that is what makes everyone so special! And I know a lot of people don't see that side of them yet but hey we are only the ages 11 and 12. Thank you so MUCH class 6-2 for everything you guys have done for me you guys will always be remembered.

Your friend Felicity

P.S This is my favorite class BY FAR!!

Dear Teacher,

I am Nathan! I am a normal arguably human being who has a very strict work ethic and will stand for everything that I think I need to. I think A LOT and its probably too much to be healthy and I value trust a lot. I don't easily communicate my thoughts and feelings with anyone but a very small group of people but I still value trust from everyone else because I feel as if I want them to understand what I want, so to put it better, I want people to trust me I the same way I trust them. I really hate when people try to figure me out if I don't communicate to them as much as I do others, it makes me feel as if they don't accept me in the sense that I don't want to tell them stuff about me. I often feel neglected when someone talks about why I cant do something because I'm a kid, I feel as if it takes the human part out of me and replaces it with a number that kills what I wanted in the first place, its not like we aren't human just because we are younger than people, so why does everyone have to "make sure we aren't getting into trouble" I just don't get that. I often find school extremely easy and that makes me rush my work. Lastly, this year I want to not improve academically, but as a person, as there are people that I don't get along with, there ae some hat I'm not sure how I got lucky enough to be their friend, so I want to live up to how they are as people.

Sincerely, Nathan, The Normal "Human" Boy

Dear 6-2,
THANK YOU so much for welcoming me in to your classroom, even though I haven't spent a lot of time with you guys, there were a lot of fun moments. One of them being the Brock University trip, even though it did not seem long, it was fun playing lots of team games. Another fun thing was the Inanimate Alice project, it was so cool reading all the story's and finding out what happens to Alice in the end. Lastly I have to thank Mr. Steltman for being the awesome teacher of 6-2. In my opinion this is a class I am going to always remember.

Sincerely
Qasim

Dear 6-2,
This year has been amazing and I have learned so much, like in math we learned about bedmas to... to whatever. OK, stuff that my parents cant do. We earned so much in coding that most 8th graders probably can't do. My favourite memories of this grade are... the Alice story, PAX, and to Qasim, Roy and Andrew, it was like the absolutely true diary, and the Holes project. I have to go but i'll try and finish.

Dear 6-2,
This year has been so amazing! I have learned so much, and I'm so thankful for you people because you have pretty much been always there for me when I'm stuck or need help solving a problem. We have just done so many fun things in this class, and this has been my favourite class, I just had so much fun working with you people. And I will always remember this class and who we are, I have so many favourite projects this year I can't even count them all, But I've just enjoyed every second I've had in this class. It has been so amazing, and I thank you all for that.
Sincerely,
Ava

Dear 6-2

This year has been a successful and amazing year. I have reached to my goals, but I will still push myself further to be even more successful. One of my favorite projects was the hot air balloon project. It is an interesting project, where we got to make them out of bags. It is technically like a hot air balloon, but we used a hair dryer instead. Building the robot was fun. Through, I helped the crew building the robot. These were one of my favorite things we did throughout this school year. I would also want to thank everyone for being part of class 6-2!

Dear 6-2,

This year has been a year to remember and that is because of the great people that helped me through it all. There is so much to be said every little thing helped me get through the year. I have learned about math and science from my teacher mr. steltman and learned about life from my peers. I am thankful that this year went the way it did. I love every thing about this year although it could have gone better. I gess the things that I regret this year will help my next year. I know there will never be a year that goes the way I want it to and that even though I wanted it to go differently I wouldn't change I thing. I hope that I can make more memories like these ones in grade 7.

It has been an awesome year for us all just to all be together. Please excuse it, I am trying to be the least amount of cheesy I can. We have had so many fun projects and games to work on, and get us all to know each other. Going to Brock university, and climbing high on wires was amazing. It has been an awesome year, and I hope for many more years to come. èaèaèaèèèaèèa

HELLO 6-2!

This has honestly, hands down been the best year of school I've ever had! My favorite thing was probably all the coding, and ultimate frisbee, but there is so much more!

Dear future teacher,

Hello! I'm Rumaysa! I'm very energetic (good luck) and I will probably be the strangest person you will ever teach. Including anyone else from 6-2.
Likes:coding, memes, art
Dislikes: over the top girly stuff, PINK, most socialization
See you next/this year!
Rumaysa.

Dear Mr.Steltman

Thanks for possibly the best year I have ever had at school! I had so much fun in this class this year, and I believe that we resemble a problematic bunch of very distantly related human(?) beings(beings, human or not) p! We had so much fun as a whole class, and we hope to see you next year!
