Look UP!

12/3/2020

As we start our procedural website on ways to be healthy; mentally, socially and physically, watching this video feels very timely. This video always hits me in the feels makes me feel emotional.  It also makes me feel guilty; guilty because I also struggle with looking down and not always being present. For your weekly challenge and blog post this week, I would like you to take at least 3 days where you do not use your tablet or computer (unless for homework) after school.
Can you take a few nights off?
For myself, I will put my cell phone’s ringer on and leave it on a shelf once I get home. Your goal is to be present with your family. I’m going to give 100% attention to the three girls at home now.  Once you’ve had your three days being present, write down a paragraph that explains what it was like without your device. Was it hard? Was it worth it? Did you get a chance to talk about something that you otherwise wouldn’t have?
Tell us about your experience. Use descriptive writing to make it feel real.
Let’s Look UP!

I had found that going with out my phone was kind of hard because im on it more then I thought . I looked at my screen time and I was on it for an average of like 50 minutes per day witch is almost an hour that is crazy. I think that it is important to look up once in a while you could miss out on great opportunities just like the video said . I also think that we should turn off our phones more often

I didn't find it that hard to go without screens for the 3 days but at first I was tempted to go on but then I went to the were millions of other things I could do to do like: read, go outside play a game, make a game, and the list goes on. there were so many other things that were also fun, so now I realize that I don't need screens.

Going without my iPad I found was not to hard, although when I was without my iPad I was outside quite a bit more, without my device I also spent a lot more time with my family. If I hadn’t done this challenge I probably wouldn’t have decorated my Christmas tree with my family, I also probably wouldn’t have made such a cool gingerbread house with my mom and sister. Before not using my devices, I felt like the only way to keep me entertained was my devices, such as television and my iPad, after going three days without my devices, I now feel like pretty much anything can keep me entertained. There are many things I learned about this challenge but one of the things that I learned is I don’t need my device for everything and to look up:)

I thought this experience wasn't that hard and I actually had fun time with my parents. I could see that there was so much stuff to do. With my family for example I could play cards or chess, watch a movie, have a nice walk and I really enjoyed this. The only thing that was on my mind from time to time and what I kind of wanted, is to play video games by myself, but I thought to myself that playing video games is fine but its way more important to spend time with your family.
One more thing that I learned was that balance is important .What I mean by that is that I should spend my time less on video games and more with my lovely family and give the attention they need.

I thought that is was good for me but the hard part of it is knowing my phone is at home. When I cracked my phone I have to take it to apple to fix it. I didn't get it back for 2 days. It was easier because my phone was not home. I think that looking up is better then looking down.

It wasn't very hard only because my mom took me to get hot chocolate
and see chrismas lights. I made some crafts so it wasn't boring for me
and it was more fun.

Day one was kinda boring because I didn't have hockey so I got bored Day two was not bad at all because I had lots of stuff to do like I had. hockey. (Kate I know what your think ''oh no did I miss hockey'' no I went to center ice) Then day three had hockey again so I was busy. And I had fun doing this it was a good break.

I did not love the experience because I use my phone and Ipad for many things but i felt good for not using my devices for 3 whole days. I do use my phone a lot so I had to think of other things to do such as I played with my sister we made presents for our family, friends, and each other, Over all I thought it was an okay activity.

I wouldn’t say that the 3 days of no electronics was a challenge for me. On day one I decorated my Christmas tree while FaceTiming my grandparents, then when my brother was at his hockey me and my mom made most of a gingerbread house which we made the pieces of it the day before and all that was left to do was add the roof and decorations. When my brother came home we put the star on the tree. The last two days I played board games, played road hockey, finished the gingerbread house, and did a bunch of other things. Overall it wasn’t too bad.

I found that going without my devices was not to bad. I was sometimes tempted to go on it but I stopped myself and went to do something else like play a game or go play something outside like basketball. I also did other stuff like go on a nature walk with my dad and decorated my Christmas tree. I wouldn't have been able to do that if I was on my device. I also think we should give up or devices once and a while and not miss the great opportunities to do other stuff. It wasn't to hard because I had a bunch of other stuff to do. Their are so many other things that we can do to keep are selves entertained that isn't technology. We should look up more and stop looking down!

The three days off my phone was kind of difficult for me because i'm used to going on it in the mornings and sometimes after school, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be because I know that I can do other things like take shots on my hockey net outside or play basketball and I did alot of them especially like having shooting contest's in hockey with my dad and all of it was really fun. Except I was counting down the days until they were all done so I could finally get my phone back but what I did without my phone was definitely more fun than having my phone.

The challenge was really hard for me because All that I wanted to do when I got home was to just watch TV but I couldn't because of the challenge, But in the end I had a lot of fun playing UNO

I forgot to do the three days, but I did end up doing at least one day, and that one day was quite fun actually! I put up Christmas decorations with my mom, and I even designed a little Christmas village we bought this year. After decorating I hang out with my bunnies, and also planned some things for Christmas day, since we can't see anyone, because my dad will still be in quarantine from travelling to B.C. Overall the day was fun, and enjoyable, and I will do it more often!

Not having devices was hard, as expected, most of my social interactions are made online which made it really hard to talk to friends, overall I think we could all do better at staying off of our devices whether it’s video games, social media or anything else. I had a lot of engaging conversations with my family and got a lot closer to a lot of my family members, I got to spend time with the people that I love which is good considering if we ever go back into quarantine I’m going to have to get used to being around the people in my household without getting sick of seeing them every single day, day and night. I checked my screen time on my phone and saw that I go on my phone for 2 HOURS AND 25 MINUTES average and that is way too long. That’s how I felt my weekend went without technology.

Honesty this challenge was harder than I thought because i was the only one in the family that was not on devices but we did go birthday shopping for my mom *her birthday is today* but it was weird being the only one still!

for the first 2 days of not going on my devices it was pretty boring and I usually went to bed early to escape the boredom, but as time went on, I got used to not going on my devices probably because about 1 or 2 years ago, my mom hide my tablet but she forgot where she hide it and I didn't have it for about 3 or 4 weeks when I was there. I don't know what to add next so I guess that's it. bye
