Mr. Steltman - Redirecting ...

June, it's JUNE?!?

It’s JUNE! Can you believe it?  When we read these blog posts there will only be three weeks left of school.  This year has gone by so quickly! It seems like only yesterday that we were starting on this grade five journey and oh my goodness, you have grown so much: physically, emotionally, academically!  Let’s use this week to look back, to have a look through all the great things we’ve done and documented as a class, and talk about how that event helped this year be a great one!
So, to describe, your blog post this week involves a few parts.  The first thing is to write a paragraph that describes how you felt your year was.  Did you enjoy yourself, did you learn things about yourself, did you grow as a person and as a student?  Talk about your best memories, the good things, the goals you set, and the things you achieved. The second part of the task is quite fun.  Click on this link to see all the pictures that we took on twitter this year.  Go through from the beginning (Sept 8, 2017 was the first day of school), and choose one picture.  Copy the link to that picture, put it in your post, and then talk about why that one event was special to you.
This is such a great way to showcase your learning, your growth, and your year.  I’m so excited to read your posts and to see the photos you’ve chosen! My favourite part of the year was the growth, learning and engagement I saw when you all solved classroom problems, designed solutions, 3D printed them and then sold your designs as commercials.  It was inspiring to see you all work together to create such an incredible project.   Just another reason why I #lovemyhaltonschool!

Our year was so fun and I loved it so much, and I wish it would never end. This year was also filled with jokes because Mr.Steltman is the funniest teacher and we had all the funny people in our class which made it the best year. I clearly enjoyed myself and I learned a lot about myself. I grew as a person because I now know a lot more and have learned a lot of new strategies for math. My best memories was probably the Science Centre and Think Research because it was really fun learning new things and being with my friends. Some goals I set were that I would be more organized with my desk, which I achieved. The most special event that we did was the infomercials. It was special to me because I got to be with my friends and design something together and we got to learn a lot of new things.

2018, a year, a normal year, a year to be exited, a year to be happy to learn, to be joyful, super duper joyful, a year that nobody could survive without having a smile on their face, a year for friendship, and one true family, a year with technology, a year with a teacher with a happy heart, a year with lots of jokes, and being ourselves....

A true year, full of kindness.

This was maybe the best year I have ever had! I made lots of great friends, and one great teacher. And I learned lots. I have unproven on almost everything! And I was having fun at the same time.

But my favourite memory was being as a class and laughing together. And being one true 5-1 family.

I will never forget this year, this awesome 5-1 year!

I don't even know how to tell you this..
I have so many things that I want to tell you about this year!

Our year has been so much fun and when I mean "so much fun" I mean SO MUCH FUN! We made slime, we are creating our own Inanimate Alice episodes and we are playing so many math games and learning strategies that we don't learn till grade 7 or 8! So we are so lucky to have Mr.Steltman. But sometimes we can get a little disrespectful. So we need stop that because he is the one that is helping us to get a good job and help us through things that are hard! One memory that I have from this year is when we showed our blog posts to that podcast guy. Oh and that time where Mika, Emma, Sabina and Jumaana and I all stacked them selves on top of me and I was on the bottom, Mika was on top of me, Emma was on top of Mika, Sabina was on top of Emma and Jumaana was on top of all of us, and they were so heavy that I collapsed and everyone was on top of me and Mika and Mika had to save me from everybody else and OH MY GOD, IT WAS HILARIOUS! Oh my god I almost died of laughing and being claustrophobic!

Anyway, this year was amazing and I hope that I never forget it!

Sincerely,
Juliet Bacon

this year was actually the best year i'v ever had I learned so much about well everything. I'm so sad that the year has to come to an end but at least I have the meters to share and keep in my head. I got a lot better at a lot of thins like reading, soccer at break and math. It was so fun and I really want to thank Mr. Steltman for doing everything he could to help us this year .

I remember when I couldn't wait for grade five to begin and now it's over. Life has put us in the race and instead of finishing first, we all finish last because we just don't want these years to end. We did so many new things this year and had so many more privileges than the other grade 5's. We learned so much but everything we did was disguised as games. We made things competitions and games and sometimes even though what we were doing is just normal old math, or literacy and stuff like that, we had fun because Mr. Steltman mad it fun, and just him being there while we learned to help and guide us made it one of the best years I have ever have.

The thing that I'm absolutely most proud of is my infomercial that I made with Titov. It was probably the most fun I had on working on such a long term project. What probably made the experience better was that there were just to people, and that made decision making way easier. (Also this is just to Titov but you could have said no...like that was an option). And with our project there were just so many failures and things that went wrong. And that point in time when Titov broke the door where I yelled at him many times afterwards but that just made it a lot better because we had to make...okay I'm rambling. Anyways, I'll just post a picture to our infomercials I guess.

This year has been one amazing year its been soooooo fun and exiting I have learn soo much I feel like this year I have grown 6 years older if that makes sense. I have accomplished so many new things and gotten better at math, Literacy, Coding, art and way more.

This is just some projects, problems and strategies that I have done this year that are really fun and exiting and I learned lots from are...

Vex
Coding
Scratch
Division
long division and short
Box strategie
Traffic jam math
Dot art
Line art
Shut the box
Morning math
making commercials
Making projects on August the book and the movie
Bent art
Break out rooms
Zentangle art and SO much more but you don't what to see me going on and on for hours.

Anyways this year I cant even explain this has been the most funist year ever and I know funist isn't a word but I don't care and one math problem that we did and was one of my favorites is the traffic jam math. And for some reason my computer cant link the pic of the traffic jam thing so I will just go on anyways this was my favourite one because we had to keep on trying and never give up and when we made mistakes we thought to our self's mistakes are powerful and they are because we all continued and figured it out and after we where done we felt happy and proud that we did it and then it spreads all around the class room and makes everyone happy and proud.

So yeah this has been the best year so far and if I put all of my years of being a human together I would say I have learned the most ever this year. So thank you Mr.Steltman for being my teacher this year and making this possible for me to do.

Sincerely,
The One The Only Mika

This was the best year ever and Mr. Steltman you are the best teacher ever https://www.google.ca/search?q=best+teacher+ever&rlz=1CAHPZS_enCA777CA777&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiD04mr2MTbAhWCYJoKHcvVANIQ_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=629&safe=active&ssui=on#imgrc=95AUtXXMFfCCGM:
I hope that you will be our grade 6 teacher next year. Anyway I thought the year was so fun we got to learn about motivation and we got the build vex robots and code them. I really enjoyed the time when we got record thing s on the green screen like our commercials and also the time when me,Claire and David made a newscast on heatwaves. I also learned that I have to try to work harder in math and I also learned how to code that was so much FUN.

Thank you Mr. Steltman for the AWESOME year I had so much fun.

Sincerely, Shelby4u

" June, it's JUNE?!?"
I'm thinking the exact same thing as you Mr.Steltman,
it's crazy how fast this year has gone by. But I would never forget
how life changing this year has been, especially you Mr.steltman you are what made this class come to life and can I say thank you so much and I do mean it. You're incredibly talented, physically, mentally, and emotionally,. I now think where were all these math tricks, computer hacks, it's so crazy. Mr.Steltman has also won an award for most forgotten attendances, give yourself a pat on the back!
I'm so thankful for all the opportunities you given us like:
Toronto coding
Wonder project
Google sites
Inanimate alice
And all your handy work
As I say again thank you Mr.Steltman for this AMAZING opportunity for teaching us!

I think this year was so amazing because we have done so much that all the other classes haven't done, like created VEX, sure, 5-3 did it, but they didn't code their robots until we came along! We are also very famous! Because famous people come to us and say "CAN I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH?" no, but, we do get a lot of recognition, for instance, the podcast people have 100's of people listening, AND WE WERE ON IT! WE'RE FAMOUS!

It feels like we started this year a couple weeks ago and now it’s ended. People say when you want something to last longer it goes by quicker and that’s exactly what happened to me. This year was probably the most fun and exciting year yet!
This year was filled with new things like 3D printing and building robots
Some of the most memorable moments were making our infomercials. This was a great opportunity to learn about scripts and advertising.
You know this year wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for the teacher we had.
Mr.Steltman came up with the most creative ideas for art and so many supplies we could use.
I remember that time we made slime...😂
This year we struggled through Math problems and we learned how to use growth mindset.
We had a field trip just for our class! We learned so much at ThinkResearch this year. We learned so much about using technology this year and we should all be thankful for the year we had!

This year has been my favorite year so far and a lot of that is because of these reasons

-Scratch
-Coding Club
-Vex
-Think Research
-Mr.Steltman
-Morning Math
-Weekly Homework
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.

This was definitely my best year yet mostly because of how much technology we use and obviously because of my teacher. I loved It so so much that I want to have Mr. Steltman for grade 6 and on. I love the way he teaches by giving us no tests but explaining things in a more meaningful way that helps me understand more about it. I think I a lot grew as a student a ton mostly due to growth mindset and more challenging work. My best memory was likely when I first walked in to my new class and I already knew all the students and I could tell the teacher was going to be amazing.

This is my photo: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DWk5yCPVQAA1QOC.jpg

This was my favourite memory because I didn't have a passion for coding at the start of the year but once I did this I was all in to it and I want to pursue it.

This was the best school year I've ever had! I've learnt more and had more fun than any other school year ever. I have learnt how to have better morals and growth mindset and mindfulness. Some of my best memories are building the mini house and creating our vex robots. I haven't really set any goals but I did do good at the beep test so I'm gonna count that as an achievement. It's really hard to pinpoint one thing that I liked most but I liked the tiny house project. Here is the link to the image

This has been my best year yet because mostly we use technology and I love that. I don't have to write as much. I have messy hand writing. and it does something called spell check. You don't have to worry how neat it is because you are typing. I wish MR.STELTMAN could be my teacher for grade 6. I love how there is no tests! My favourite thing we did was our 3d printer project.

Grade 5 was awesome! I really enjoyed this school year with Mr. Steltman. He is a very kind and thoughtful teacher. We always worked on exciting and cool projects. Instead of filling in boring math sheets, we were engaged in super fun games! In literacy I had two favorite projects. The first one is an Inanimate Alice episode on Google slides. Inanimate Alice is an online digital series about a girl that has an unusual and eventual life. Each student in our class was tasked with making our own episode. My episode takes place in Mexico. We had to use pictures, words, gifs to create it.

The second project that I was most proud of was the Infomercial. We worked on it with partners. My partner was Adithi. Our infomercial was about a door stopper. We chose to create a door stopper because the classroom door was making a loud noise when someone closed it. To make our door stopper we used a 3D printer! Then we shot an infomercial about the product. I had so much fun! We had to write the script for the infomercial. Adithi and I got to act in our own video. We also invited two actors to work with us in the video, aka our classmates. I really enjoyed the final infomercial.
I learned a lot during this school year. One of my proudest achievements is being able to program a complete game on Scratch.

This school year was amazing, and I’m sad it is coming to an end ._.
So far this was the one of the best school years I had in my life.

This year was really amazing and I hope next year is going to be even better. But today were looking back at the past not the future so here are some of my best moments this year.
First of all the infomercials were really fun! My partners were Jack, Director (Kevin) Elmo and Alex. A and they were great and they were really easy to work with because there so creative and It was great and i think we had the biggest team (four)
Next I think the frog math was challenging but great and I'm glad Mr. Steltman gave us some time to work on it because now were smarter.
And last of all the new and old friends that I bonded with and I hope there in my class next year

Ha I bet you though I was going to miss Mr. Steltman (not a chance) he's been my best teacher so far and I can't thank him enough.
Anyways that's all thanks for such a great year

This year was obviously my favorite year ever! Mr. Steltman is the best teacher ever because he explains everything in a challenging and fun way, He also likes to do math that challenges our brain and doesn't believe in tests! If I were to count how long we have been on technology to do our work then I would say that 75%-80% of the time we had had work on the technology! I think I have grown as a student because of all the challenging math questions like the frog math and because I have also worked hard and challenged my mind! I also love sharing my ideas, and have become way more comfortable doing that! My favorite memories are EVERYTHING but I will just list some (vex robotics, innovation projects, think research field trip & inanimate Alice!
