Mr. Steltman - Redirecting ...

When the Going Gets Tough ...

4/27/2017

Evan had mentioned last week that he would like another blog post featuring the characters that you had created.  Evan, this one’s for you!

Isn’t it funny how life works?  One week it feels like everything is great, going amazing and everything feels bright but then the next week can come, turn on you and everything feels like it’s crashing down around you.  A huge part of life is not only the adversity and hardships that you will face but rather, how you deal with these hardships.  Dealing with roadblocks and negativity is something that we can have our characters face in our writing as well.  Think back to the character you created about a month ago.   For your blog post this week, write a story where they face some form of a challenge (make it realistic, maybe something that could happen to you) and see how your character reacts to this challenge.  Each character may react differently but finish the story so that their reaction contributes to the resolution of the story.

EARTH Day 2017 - We Can Make A Difference

4/20/2017

In honor of Earth Day that is on Saturday, watch the following video.  While you’re watching the video think about the main message of the video, what are they trying to teach us?  For your homework this week, start thinking about how you can do something to make our world a better place.  Get out there and DO SOMETHING!  My goal this week is to go out behind my house and pull up as much garlic mustard as I see around my property.  I don’t want it to spread any further.  As a further step, I will be planting native species of plants and flowers in my gardens that bees will like.  Your homework this week is to choose ONE thing.  Go out and do one thing that makes the world a better place and write about it in a descriptive paragraph that also talks about the impact your action will have on the world! Go out and make the world a better place!

What Would You Do If You Knew You Couldn't Fail?

I have been so proud of each and everyone of you over the past two weeks.  As a class, you are truly kind, caring, and compassionate.  You work hard in class and stay focussed.  I have been incredibly proud of the dedication and effort that you put into the robots, the excitement and engagement I’ve seen as you take on codesters, as well as your efforts in math club and Annie Jr.  Thanks so much for being so great.  As we think about inspiration, iteration and ideas of pushing ourselves forwards let’s continue that idea for your blog post.  I want you to think to yourself, what would you try if you could not fail?  What would you try that was different, what would you be, how much further could you go if you knew that you couldn’t fail?  Is fear of failure or rejection stopping you from accomplishing something you’ve always wanted to do?  Shoot for the stars and this week, tell us,

“What would you try if you knew you couldn’t fail?”
